Did you know...

Holy Innocents was founded by a 20-year-old woman who had the vision to care for women and children in need?
And that the person who joined her to lead Holy Innocents through its first 74 years was also a woman?
As we celebrate our parish's remarkable 150+ years of history, we're excited to honor our founder Nellie Peters Black, and Deaconess Katherine Wood with beautiful oil portraits. These two amazing women were the catalysts behind the creation of Holy Innocents, and they deserve a place on the portrait wall that recognizes and appreciates their invaluable contributions. They lovingly nurtured Holy Innocents into existence like mothers, and we're thrilled to finally give them the visibility and credit they rightfully deserve.
After carefully reviewing the portfolios of over a dozen artists, we have ultimately decided to select Cheryl Mann Hardin for the task. Cheryl is a distinguished portraitist who has received awards for her work, and her pieces have been exhibited in our own Ventulett Gallery. She has a thorough understanding of and shares our vision for celebrating our outstanding founders.
The Portrait Committee, Alice Ball, Susan Bishop, Margaret Boone, Cammie Ives, Peggy Stapleton, and Kyle Young, thoroughly researched the cost of creating the portraits. The cost, per portrait, ranged from $8,000 to $28,000.

The cost for our for this project is $20,000 for both portraits. To see how you can help, click below.
