Miedo Total - ecolagbohrac2021 - Beauty Parlour - Friday 14th April

Electronic manipulations that meander between instrumental acts of aggression and vocal torch songs, live A/V, bloodied, body-beat rattlers and high-drama industro-wave laments

SHIFT & Lesson #1

Comfort W/support Harpoon & Sachasky

COMFORT
Raging stripped-down electro/postpunk/body music from Glasgow-based brother/sister duo, Sean and Natalie McGhee. Last in Cardiff for a killer set in Sept 2019, when they’d just released debut LP Not Passing. Since then they’ve released an EP on the FatCat label, with second album What’s Bad Enough following just ahead of their UK tour. Brilliant lyrics about trans/queer liberation, self-acceptance and much more from this very special band. LINK

HARPOON
Overdue return to Cardiff for the ongoing live electronic project of Tina Hitchens (Viridian Ensemble, Halftone and many more) and Aron Ward (Olanza, Repo Man and more). Head-spinning vortex of lean, brutalist, interlocking composition and hyperkinetic rhythm study, honing years of live improvisation into a thrill-ride of texture through two volca beats and plenty of cheap fx pedals. LINK

SACHASKY (Duo featuring skylrk & Sachasom)
Newish project based in Cardiff and Machynlleth (at different times) and offering acid commentary on Wales and Welsh culture through the medium of noisy experimental hip-hop/techno. Debut tape Yr Offerynnols Uffernoliadaus! came out last year and this’ll be a rare set before the next batch.

EVELYN WOLSTENHOLME RESIDENCY

Monday 22nd-Wednesday 24th May

Evelyn Wolstenholme joins the SHIFT residents this month for a short residency. Evelyn will have access to studio space, technical, curatorial & peer to peer support as well as audience engagement within SHIFT’s shared supportive environment.

Born and raised in Manchester, Evelyn Wolstenholme is an interdisciplinary conceptual artist who lives and works as a practicing artist in South Wales.

Evelyn’s work centralises upon the space of the domestic ‘Home’, and the objects and automative performances that come and go within it. Looking through a phenomenological and anthropological lens, the artist examines the notion of loss and grief through our relationships to objects and the role they play in identity once the physical body is no longer present.

With a desire to create meaningful personal cultural connections in the gallery, as well as alternative settings.
Agora will present these interactions as a series of immersive encounters, celebrating Welsh landscapes and language, merging pagan and esoteric ritual into gallery settings and outdoor explorations.
Agora aims to offer a transformative role in society, celebrating traditions and powerfully expressing the meanings that places hold.
