SPRING APPEAL | May 1, 2023

Hello Friends,

Thank you for your support of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF) in strengthening Native arts, expanding awareness and access to Native knowledge, and investing in cultural continuity for generations of Native people. With your help, we’ve supported nearly 400 artists and organizations in 34 states and the District of Columbia.

For many, Spring represents a time of rebirth where warmth returns, flowers bloom, and animals come out of hibernation. We are reminded that Spring is a time of renewal. NACF is also going through a time of rebirth and renewal. As you may know, NACF has a new home in Southeast Portland, OR – the Center for Native Arts and Cultures (the Center).

The Center strives to be more than an incubator of Native artistic expressions and a vibrant gathering place for Native communities through diverse exhibitions, events, cultural ceremonies, and celebration. We envision the Center as part of a national movement present in this decade – one that reckons with a history of silenced Native stories, advances racial equity work, and addresses climate change which threatens our homelands – to work with other committed organizations and peoples in identifying approaches to self-determination and Return to the Land.

Visit us at the Center this Spring!

We invite you to be in community with us during this season of renewal. Visit the Center to experience the nationally touring exhibition, Protection: Adaptation and Resistance, opening on Friday, May 19 with an artist exhibit tour at 6pm and a reception at 7pm. The exhibition showcases twenty Indigenous Alaska artists' responses to the pandemic, climate change and cultural survival through both customary techniques and innovative contemporary approaches.

Join our new membership program!

We also invite you to join us this Spring by becoming an inaugural member of NACF. Being a member is one of the best ways to help us advance our growing impact – supporting the power of art and storytelling, and investing in Native artists and culture bearers. As a member, you’ll receive unique and artful welcome gifts, and access to special events throughout the year, including opportunities to learn from and engage with our community of Native makers, cultural innovators, and more. Any gift of $120 or more is eligible for a NACF membership, with options available for monthly $10 recurring support. Your engagement is needed. Help us empower Native artists and communities to be a force for social change by becoming a member today!
Thank you again for supporting our mission to advance equity and cultural knowledge, focusing on the power of arts and collaboration to strengthen Native communities and promote positive social change with American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native peoples. We hope to see you at the Center sometime soon.

With Gratitude,
The NACF Team
