SQM Research has today formerly released ‘Shares Professional’, a ASX top 200 listed companies ratings service for the Australian financial advice community. The ratings have been compiled using a rigorous quantitative research process which is qualitatively peer reviewed. The ratings are based on SQM’s industry known five-star ratings model with a view to identifying opportunities over a medium to long term. On its formal release today, SQM Research published the current top and bottom five listed companies*
The current median rating for all ASX listed companies currently stands at 2.20 stars. A ‘neutral’ rating for each of the factors is approximately 2.50 stars.
Each top 200 ASX listed company is sub rated on three industry recognised factors, that being ‘valuation’, ‘quality’ and ‘momentum’. The overall rating is an equal weighting of these three factors.
Each key factor has its own distinct methodology employed using industry recognised ratios. For example, under the valuation factor discounted cashflows, discounted dividends, price to earnings, price to NTA, NAV are all used. Valuations also takes into account consensus price targets and forward earnings. Such ratios are also weighted depending upon the nuances of the sector concerned. A complete and transparent methodology document has been written and disclosed. Overseeing the ratings will be Otto Rieth in conjunction with Louis Christopher. Otto has been instrumental in the methodology designed behind SQM’s Shares Professional Ratings. Otto has considerable experience in broader investment strategy, asset consulting and investment research over a range of asset classes, including investment committee membership and making key investment decisions. Otto was Senior Portfolio Manager and then Head of Strategic Research at a subsidiary business of the van Eyk Group.
