Kia ora Kāpiti
While the long weekends and short weeks were a great opportunity for exploring, resetting and connecting, we are looking forward to a full and busy month of mahi, project progress and workshops across the rohe.
With autumn now truly upon us, it’s a great time to clear your stormwater drains, gutters and spouting of all those leaves, and to check over your household emergency plans ahead of any heavy rainfall.
Mā te wā – have a great week.

New water main for Ōtaki to improve fire protection
Work to install a new ‘fire loop’ water main along Riverbank Road in Ōtaki is about to begin.
The fire loop, which is a water line specifically for the provision of fire protection, is a key project to improve water supply to the township’s industrial zone in the event of a fire emergency.
Project contractor Groundworks Limited will undertake the project in two stages beginning this week. Stage one includes installing 750 metres of new 200mm diameter water main on Riverbank Road. This work is set to be completed by the end of August 2023.
Stage 2 involves 1000 metres of new 200mm diameter water mains on Aotaki Street and extending the existing 300mm diameter water main on Mill Road by a further by 230 metres. This work is set to be completed by the end of December 2023.

Community hubs will help you get through
As we’ve seen in recent events and other disasters around the world, communities naturally come together to help those in need.
After you have checked on your household and neighbours, you can go to your local Community Emergency Hub following a significant event. It's a place where people in your neighbourhood can support each other and work out what to do next.
Your Community Emergency Hub is opened and run by people like you, using the skills and resources that you already have – together, we can get through a disaster.

Stormwater upgrade heads towards Rimu Road
The major stormwater upgrade in Paraparaumu is making progress across the Kāpiti Primary School field towards Rimu Road.
From Sunday night 21 May, Rimu Road will be closed just north of Iver Trask Place for up to four weeks while a service hole is installed. Crews will work double shifts to complete this section of work as quickly as possible. Once it’s finished, Rimu Road will re-open for northbound traffic.
In order to minimise disruption and keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible, we’re making temporary changes to the surrounding road network. Keep an eye out for more information about detours and other traffic changes coming soon.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our crews progress this important project. It’s part of the plan to reduce flooding and help prepare our district to live with more water due to climate change.

Akatarawa Road closing for culvert replacement
|
|
Akatarawa Road will be closed to through traffic between 8-19 May for work to replace drainage culverts.
|
|
During this time access will be limited to residents only during the day (between 7.30am and 5pm), with traffic management in place.
The road will reopen at night and on weekends.
We don’t anticipate working outside day time hours from Monday to Friday but in the unlikely event this is required we will keep the community informed through our usual channels.

Paraparaumu waterfront seating gets a spruce up
|
|
You may notice the disappearance of some of our tables and seating from along the Paraparaumu waterfront from this week.
|
|
Don’t worry, it’s just temporary!
Our friends at Big Mac Slabs will be undertaking refurbishments including cleaning and staining. This work will be carried out gradually so there will still be some seating available at all times.
