Welcome Skully!Our newest social justice collaborator join us with all their current efforts in their community. Blindness - spoke to adults experiencing vision loss later in life about navigating a visual impairment in corporate america, feelings around vision loss and the real obstacles we face. Universal healthcare - been creating content around how close NY is to passing the New York Health Act, a state level bill to cover healthcare for all NY residents Hosting a COVID safe gathering to celebrate Skully’s belated birthday to inspire members of community to take action to help pass NY health act Pride - fundraising and co-organizing 2nd annual Pride celebration in Skully’s neighborhood that is heavily right leaning Will use this as an opportunity to advocate for LGBT representation on board that makes key decisions on NY health care once the New York Health Act is passed. Community fridge - raising funds for the fridge at Skully’s belated 30th bday celebration DoH - harm reduction Met director of harm reduction for NY DoH who happens to be a member of my community. Working with her to get trained and certified so Skully can distribute Narcan in their community, especially at the community fridge
Privacy - Skully is grappling with how to post about IRL community work where Skully lives/uses their government name on their online platform while maintaining privacy and safety

One Free Community & Barter Up Collaboration Begins!We had a blast this Sunday at our joint event with Barter Up, another awesome mutual aid group. We got to meet and chat with members from both groups and exchange tips and insights on how to make a difference in our communities. Barter Up shared their expertise on hosting in-person events and One Free Community showed them how to rock the online space. The amazing founders of Barter Up also offered to help us boost our social media game and create a handy guide for organizing local events anywhere. We tackled some of the challenges and opportunities of community building and brainstormed on how to keep our collaboration going strong. By combining online and offline activities, we can reach more people and create a more resilient community! |

Attended TCG Theater for Activism: REST UPSimply put, there is no way we can meet the challenges and opportunities of this moment without taking better care of ourselves and each other. Yet rest doesn’t mean the same thing for everyone. We’ll especially honor and tend to the care networks of femme, Queer, TGNC, and disabled BIPOC, who, out of necessity, have created powerful practices of care. Through affinity spaces and the sharing of care resources and rest practices, we’ll cultivate ease and abundance together. |
