Dear Colleagues,
As National Inventors Month kicks off, we celebrate UD ingenuity. Dozens of our researchers hold patents, for works ranging from musical sonatas to flexible solar cells. We salute our inventors, and thank our Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships (OEIP) for their role in supporting and advancing this creative activity.
New knowledge — and the process of uncovering it — constantly surrounds us at UD. This month, though, you may feel like you need running shoes to keep up with the pace, as we sprint to the finish line with research projects, final exams and special events, culminating in Doctoral Hooding (May 25) and Commencement (May 27).
Enjoy the celebrations, and best wishes to our graduating students!
Kelvin H. Lee
Interim Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Innovation

Obtaining an eRA Commons ID for
Non-UD Affiliated Senior/Key Personnel
As of January 25, 2022, an eRA Commons ID is required in the Credential field of the Senior/Key Person Profile form for all individuals listed on this form*. This includes consultants, other significant contributors and other key individuals required to be entered on the form by the funding opportunity announcement. For individuals that do not have an eRA Commons ID and are not affiliated with UD or an organization registered in eRA Commons, UD prefers the following two options:
- The Senior/Key individual’s organization can register in eRA Commons and provide a Commons username (Commons ID) for them. Registration of an entity could take several weeks to complete.
- The Senior/Key individual can register themselves as an organization using NIH Special Registration Instructions for Unaffiliated/Independent Applicants. This is the ideal option for independent consultants or other individuals who are not affiliated with UD.
As a reminder, individuals needing scientific roles (Program Directors, Principal Investigators, Scientist, Post-Doc, Graduate Students, Undergraduate Students, Project Personnel) should only have one eRA Commons ID. Your Contract & Grant Analyst can ensure an individual does not already have an existing eRA Commons username.
*This requirement has been implemented by NIH, AHRQ, FDA and VA/ORD.

NSF I-Corps Northeast Hub
The NSF I-Corps Northeast Hub offers training programs that enable STEM researchers to explore the potential for their discoveries to become products or services that can benefit society. The NE Hub's flagship Propelus program is a 4-session (virtual) program that provides training on customer discovery and value proposition, connects research teams with like-minded innovators in the region, and allows teams to engage with experienced mentors. Teams who participate in the Propelus program are eligible for up to $3,000 in grant funding to fuel their customer discovery research (e.g., travel to conferences, joining professional associations, LinkedIn Premium memberships, etc.).
Propelus cohorts run throughout the year (every other month) and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Click here to learn more or apply. Questions about the NE I-Corps Hub can be directed to UD Faculty Lead Dan Freeman and Program Coordinator Caitlin Baiduc.
