Letter from the President

Dear SDPCA Membership,

Wow! Our annual meeting is just around the corner! Saturday, May 6th you'll be clapping for a new board. Which means that I've been your President for a whole year now. Time flies when you're having fun, but it zooms by when there are fewer zoom meetings!

If you are at all interested or curious about joining the board, please feel free to reach out. This year will see a pretty big transition, as many people are pursuing new opportunities and exploring more passions... you can do this too!

There's are many benefits to being a board member, the annual board retreat/glamping trip in Baja is a big plus.... BUT, my favorite benefit of serving on this board is the opportunity to facilitate the coming together of one of the best communities of people in San Diego. Thank you all for showing up to volunteer activities, fundraising events, and social gatherings! I love seeing your faces and hearing your stories.  You make doing this volunteer job meaningful and rewarding for me.

See you all on Saturday, and in the year to come!

Peace,

Colleen Patricia Garrett

What is involved in being an SDPCA Board Member?

We are looking for a few new members to join the SDPCA Board.  The board works hard but also has fun!  Duties for all board members include:
  • Monthly board meetings - currently held the first Tuesday of the month in the evening
  • Assist at the 4 major events each year - Holiday Party, Taste the World, Annual Meeting/Potluck, and Bonfire
  • Host or co-host one or two smaller events throughout the year such as a happy hour, international dinner, community service project, or an outdoor activity
Each board member also takes on a board position such as secretary, newsletter editor, fundraising, etc.

Interested or have questions? Contact Colleen at President@SDPCA.org.

Take Action!

There are two ways you can support Peace Corps through your advocacy:
  • Thank Senators who signed the annual Peace Corps Funding Letter
  • Urge them to co-sponsor and pass the Peace Corps Reauthorization Act
Visit  the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) advocacy page https://advocacy.peacecorpsconnect.org/email-congress#/ for sample letters to sign & send to your lawmakers.  There are also options to draft your own letter.
