Summer book group: Generations

We are planning a summer UCET book group, reading Generations: The Real Differences Between Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Boomers, and Silents―and What They Mean for America's Future by Jean Twenge. Considering the factors that shape generations and their resulting shared characteristics could help us understand our students better. Led by Marcy Holland. Contact ucet@iusb.edu to sign up!

Apply to be a Digital Gardener Faculty Fellow by May 12

Now accepting applications for the Fall 2023 cohort of Digital Gardener Faculty Fellows!

Fellows will be among a group of around 30 IU faculty and staff from across the university who will work to incorporate digital ways of knowing, doing, and making into their work with students. Fellows will build individual skills, develop curriculum materials, and work collaboratively with others across campuses and disciplines.

Fellows will receive a stipend for participation. It’s open to faculty across IU, regardless of rank, discipline, or campus. It’s also open to staff working in roles directly supporting teaching and learning.

The deadline to apply is May 12. Learn more about the fellowship and apply today. If you’ve been a fellow before, please encourage your colleagues to apply.

Registration Now Open for the Teach, Play, Learn Conference

Teach, Play, Learn is Indiana University’s annual academic conference on game-based teaching and learning. Options to attend in person or virtually are available. The conference will take place at IU Kokomo on Friday, June 2, 2023. Register to attend here.

Generative AI: Exploring Applications for Teaching and Learning

"Generative AI: Exploring Applications for Teaching and Learning" is a fast-paced event for faculty investigating the world of AI. Through quick 15-minute "speed encounters" in breakout rooms, you'll learn about various applications of generative AI in education and discover innovative ways to enhance learning and reduce administrative burdens. Our facilitators provide a platform for asking questions, sharing ideas, and making connections. Whether you're a pro or just starting out, join us to explore the possibilities of generative AI in education.

Topics will include:

  • Snipd App: Want to include podcasts in class? Use AI to auto-generate chapters for podcast episodes and key ideas for full or partial episodes.
  • Writing prompts for ChatGPT that foster learning.
  • Using ChatGPT to efficiently summarize and rephrase your writing and the writing of others.
  • Utilize ChatGPT to craft measurable learning objectives and rubrics.
  • Using ChatGPT to generate formative assessments.

Quality Matters at IU: Applying the Quality Matters Rubric to Online Courses

Want ideas to improve your online or hybrid course? Join us for this one-day workshop to learn about the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric, about the QM process of continuous improvement, and to join the QM community! Attendees may use the workshop as a step to becoming a certified Quality Matters peer reviewer.

Teaching/Learning Partnerships

A form of co-mentoring and peer review of teaching. Partners from any rank or discipline pair up to visit each other’s classes and learn more about teaching from each other. UCET support for Teaching/Learning Partners includes assistance in locating a partner, assistance in locating information on teaching strategies, and $100 each to spend on teaching related materials.
