Healing Prayers this weekend

Prayers of healing will be offered in All Saints' Chapel after both worship services this weekend, Saturday May 6th and Sunday May 7th. Melissa will be available in the chapel after the service to pray with you for God's love and grace to tend to those places that might need healing in your life, or in the life of someone dear to you. The sacramental rite of anointing and laying on of hands, "by which God's grace is given for the healing of spirit, mind, and body," (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 861) will also be offered—the minister uses holy oil to anoint the forehead of the person seeking healing. We are reminded of Psalm 23: "you have anointed my head with oil, and my cup is running over."

Healing prayers are offered every other month, on the first weekend of the month.
The office is open:
Tuesday - Thursday
9am - 3:30pm
Please call 508-993-0547 or email office@gracechurchnb.org for an appointment.

To reach the clergy on call for a pastoral emergency, please call Charlene Ryder at 508-728-4374, or call the church office and follow the telephone prompts.
WHAT'S NEW?
As mentioned in Melissa's sermon from last weekend, here is a link to Bobby McFerrin conducting his translation and musical setting of Psalm 23:

Tell Your Story: Grace Hosts The New Bedford Whaling Museum’s Common Ground Project in May

The New Bedford Whaling Museum is inviting all residents of the South Coast to participate in their Common Ground storytelling project.

“Common Ground is an ambitious oral history project and exhibition to create a full picture of the Greater New Bedford region and residents through story collection. A key goal is to give voice to community members. By gathering individual stories, Common Ground presents a diverse, inclusive, and celebratory accounting of the lived experiences of South Coast residents.”

The Common Ground story booth has been traveling around to different organizations and religious communities, and for the month of May it will be at Grace. Do you have a story about growing up or living on the South Coast? A story from your ancestors’ experience here? Come share it and record it in the Common Ground booth. No story is too small—in fact, the seemingly small everyday stories of our lives are a large part of what the project aims to capture and preserve.

Read more about the project here: https://www.whalingmuseum.org/commonground/

The story booth is in the nursery (the room to the left after you come in the main front door of the church) and will remain there during the month of May. Open booth hours will be:

Saturdays 3:30p-4:30p
Sundays 8:30a-9:30a and 11a-1p

You can also call or email the church office to make an appointment to record your story outside of these hours: office@gracechurchnb.org

Technological instructions and help will be available for you. If you have questions about this project, or would like to volunteer to be a “Common Ground story booth docent” during some of the open booth hours, please talk to Melissa this weekend after worship or email her: revmelissahowell@gracechurchnb.org

Scholarships

Grace Church is blessed to be in a unique position to offer scholarships to active members seeking higher education. The generous bequests of several Grace Church members and their families and the prudent investments of these funds have afforded us the opportunity to assist our parishioners with their endeavors of higher education.

Scholarship application and details can be found here. Applications are also available in hard copy in the office and can be requested via email office@gracechurchnb.org.

Applications must be received by 3:30pm on Thursday, June 15th.

The Walk for Hunger is a community movement to change the face of food insecurity in Massachusetts, and Project Bread's flagship community event and fundraiser. Since 1969, on the first Sunday in May, we — a community of thousands of neighbors from all walks of life—walk together to make a statement about the state of hunger in Massachusetts, and to take a step towards a permanent solution.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Translators Needed for Food Pantry

Martha's Pantry meets Wednesday and Friday mornings at Grace. Our hours are 9:30-10:30 am.

We are experiencing an increase in guests that speak only Spanish, Portuguese or Creole. This causes difficulties for the guests and for those who serve them.

We are looking for a parishioner who might be interested in helping with translation on Wednesday and/or Friday mornings.

Please contact the office at Grace
(office@gracechurchnb.org or 508-993-0547) if you are able to help.

Thank you!
