Hillside Daisy

In the radiant embrace of a Californian spring, the Hillside Daisies dance like golden sunbeams, anointing the slopes with a symphony of vibrant hues. A gentle whisper of the western breeze ushers in a mesmerizing display of these botanical gems, as if nature had personally sprinkled the hills with stardust, her brushstrokes weaving a living tapestry of hope and joy.

It serves as a heartwarming reminder of life's ceaseless renewal. As we tread softly among the blossoming petals, and we are reassured that, like the Hillside Daisies, hope too blooms within us all.

MHFA Training- May

May 16&17 (Tues&Wed),1-4:30pm PCT(4-7:30pm EST), Adult MHFA (English)

To raise the awareness of mental health among community residents and enhance the ability to cope with and prevent emergencies, MHACC and UCA WAVES jointly held two “Mental Health First Aid Training” sessions in English and Chinese on March 11 and March 25, respectively, to enable more people to become “mental health guardians” with certain professional knowledge and skills.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a certification course managed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. This course teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental crises and challenges of substance abuse. It enables you to reach out and provide initial help to someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis. There are two courses available for either adult or youth first aiders. Participants who pass the test will receive a globally recognized “Mental Health First Aider Certificate”.

“Care can’t Wait” meet Tammy Duckworth

As one of the first female Army pilots to fly combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom, she served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years before retiring in 2014. Born in Bangkok, Thailand, to an American father and a Thai-Chinese mother, Duckworth's inspiring background adds to the significance of her speech.

May is AAPI Heritage Month

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is a celebration of the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States. It is held annually during the month of May. This commemorative month honors the contributions and achievements of AAPI individuals across various fields, including arts, sciences, sports, and public services.

The month of May was chosen to coincide with two important milestones in Asian American history: the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 that was primarily built by Chinese immigrant laborers.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is an opportunity to learn about and appreciate the diverse cultures that make up the AAPI community, as well as acknowledge the challenges faced by these communities both throughout history and today.

Demanding increase hourly wages!

On April 12th, social workers from unions and home care providers gathered in front of San Francisco City Hall, demanding an increase in hourly wages to $25. MHACC Elaine Peng made a special trip from the East Bay to attend the home care workers' rally, showing her support for the pay raise. Supporters believe that care workers are an essential pillar of society, taking care of the elderly and disabled at the risk of their own lives during the pandemic, yet not receiving fair compensation and respect.

Several city council members expressed their support for the proposal and urged voters to vote in favor. They believe that raising the hourly wages of care workers will help reduce poverty and inequality, as well as improve social welfare.
