Meet our Artisan of the Month - Herta Klassen

Herta Klassen calls the Nicola Valley home since moving here from the Lower Mainland in 2017.
She has always found the outdoors to be her 'happy place' and hasn't regretted trading in her coastal forest hikes for hills, grasslands, and open skies. Translating the beauty around her into art is her greatest joy and on some days her greatest frustration! Bringing the stories within nature into your home and into your heart is her quest.

Herta creates in watercolours, acrylics, and mixed media. The journey began when a friend invited her to take a watercolour class and it was love at first sight and first stroke. Now, twenty years later, the journey is still just as exciting, challenging, and rewarding. Most of her learning has taken place alone, in her own private corner of struggle and joy, but select workshops over the years have contributed gems of knowledge and technique.
Her art has found new homes across Canada, the US, and other corners of the world. More recently, it's been a pleasure for Herta to share her art in Merritt and get acquainted with the community of talented artisans at the Nicola Valley Art Gallery.

Herta and her husband call the Nicola Lake area home. She also loves being Grammy to eight awesome grandkids and a few dogs. Walking and hiking are a must and in the winter (yes, she loves winters in the Nicola Valley) it's snowshoeing and xcountry skiing.

We'd also love to hear from you if you have a skill you would like to share as a workshop leader. Hit reply and let us know.
