Meet the Senator - Roy Prouty

I have been in shared governance since 2017 serving as president of the graduate student senate (GSA), chair of the University Steering Committee, Chair of the system-wide student senate (USMSC), and most recently as a PSS senator and Chair of the Legislative Actions Committee of the system-wide staff senate (CUSS).

I graduated from UMBC with an MS in Atmospheric Physics in 2013. Later, I returned as staff with the High Performance Computing Facility operated by DoIT while moonlighting as a PhD student in Computer Science. I am also the Director of the UMBC Observatory which holds monthly public events on astronomy. I also serve as the advisor of the UMBC Astronomy Club.

I also enjoy working with DoIT interns as they learn about high performance computing and system administration as well as with students in the observatory and UMBC Astronomy Club. My husband and I split our time between NYC and Baltimore, and enjoy road-tripping with our doggo. I spend most of my time near downtown Baltimore where I enjoy chasing squirrels, biking, and discovering Charm City secrets.
