Dear Threshold,

God has been, no surprise(!), wonderfully faithful to us by providing Rev. Gabe Swing to become our next Lead Pastor. If you have not heard, Gabe was enthusiastically endorsed by our Presbytery last Saturday, and as a consequence will begin his ministry at Threshold on July 1st. Please be praying for this next transition as Gabe and Jan enter into the life of this wonderful church with its mission to reach our community and world for Christ. Elizabeth and I are so grateful for this season of ministry we have shared with you and look forward to all the good reports yet to come!

Now, as I conclude my ministry as your Transitional Pastor, with my final Sunday coming on May 21, for the next three Lord’s Days we will continue aspects of The Story. This Sunday, May 7th, we will look at 2 Kings 18 to see the extremely difficult challenge that King Hezekiah faced in a time of unwanted adversity. Although his time and circumstances were much different than ours, the essence of the challenge is exactly what each of us battle each day. Please read the passage prior to Sunday to see what’s at stake. This Sunday is also a communion Sunday, so please prepare your hearts to celebrate this rich and important time together.

For those of you who like to look ahead, on May 14th we’ll look at Romans 16 to better understand the nature and mission of the local church in The Story. And finally, on May 21st we’ll examine the Last Word of The Story, which is essentially the single most important word that vocalizes our confidence in God’s redemptive plan day in and day out.

Thank you for your faithfulness to Jesus, and with much affection,

Pastor Dori

Session Nominating Committee

Our Nominating Committee invites you to nominate candidates for our next slate for Session. This fall we will fill three vacancies for Ruling Elders. According to theBylaws, “Except as otherwise provided in these Bylaws, all corporate powers shall be exercised by or under the authority of, and the business and affairs of the corporation shall be managed under the direction of, the Session. As shepherds of the flock (1 Peter 5:2-3), the Session will exercise spiritual oversight of the congregation, discern the mission and vision for the congregation, and display what it means to be fully committed disciples of Christ.” It is VITALLY important that we discern WHO God is calling to help lead our church. Review Titus 1:6-9 and I Timothy 3:2-7 to learn more about the expectations of an elder. Remember, any name submitted should be an active member of Threshold for a minimum of one year. Submit your nominations to nomcom@thresholdchurch.com

We thank you for your commitment to praying over this process as well as the future of our church.
All of the copies of "The Story" have been given out. The book can be ordered here. This site charges $5.00 plus shipping, instead of the retail price of $19.99.
The Story Devotions

In Chapter 16 “The Beginning of the End,” Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord while everyone else did not listen and were as stiff-necked as their ancestors. Click to read how this chapter reveals the never-ending love of God.
Prayer Team Meeting

Beginning in February, the Prayer Team will be meeting every Sunday from 9:00-9:30 in the nursery. They welcome anyone who is interested in joining them in a time of prayer for Threshold as we begin this new season of searching for a pastor.
Becoming a PNC - Praying Non-Stop Church

This will be our third week using the Vision Teams work to guide our prayers. This week our prayer focus will be on “Live purposefully through community.”

“We believe we are made to participate in the Gospel together as a community. Belonging to a spiritual family means committing to partnership, fellowship, and friendship with one another.”

Our prayer focus verses for this week are Hebrews 10: 24-25, “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Bothers and sisters in Christ, let us look for opportunities this week to encourage each other in our faith walk. This encouragement of each other begins with praying for one another. Please take the time to pray for Pastor Dori and Elizabeth as well as our future Lead Pastor’s family, Gabe and Jan Swing. Also pray for Threshold members who are going through a difficult season of life. Lastly, this Sunday come to church purposefully, seeking to encourage other Threshold members in their faith. Seek out at least one other person that you meet on Sunday morning and ask them how they are doing and how you can pray for them. Let us love one another well.

Remember the words of the Gospel of John 13:35, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Amen
