June on the ALT

Several hikers are using the trail as backpacking season hits full swing.  Many hikers have been complimentary on social media about the condition of the trail and support from people affiliated with the trail - NICE WORK TEAM!

June ALT Spotlight

Come lend a hand at the WVSTA Annual Trail Work Event - W5!!  We are asking volunteers go to the ALT website and register to volunteer.  This helps us organize shuttles, food, work details and camping.  


-If you signup to work four hours on Sat, you get a free catered meal from Smoke On The Water.   If you want to help out, we will find a job for you.  Email Jeff Byard Section 2 Coordinator with any questions: grizzlyjb@yahoo.com


-Annual Member Meeting 7pm Sat Night After Dinner- Vote For Officers


-We will also have the latest ALT and WVSTA gear to purchase at this event.


-NEW THIS YEAR - there will be a film crew present on Sat June 17th from 7:30am- 8:30pm to capture the essence, hard work, dedication, FUN and all things ALT.  Please come be a part of history with us!!

ALT Follow-Up

WVSTA had a table last month at “Cheat Fest” in Albright, WV right on the ALT trail.  Jeff Byard, Marissa Bennett and Nicole Friend helped with sales and promotion of the ALT and WVSTA for two days.  

WVSTA also set up a table to promote the Allegheny Trail last month at the famed “Trail Days” in Damascus, VA.  Justin and Tiffany Mullins, Thomas C. Drumheller, Zachary Wright, Kathryn Amanda McGreevy, Jim Boyd and Robin Burns helped at the table for two days.  

Volunteering Opportunities

June 10-11: Section 4 Jerry’s Run Trail Head I-64 White Sulphur Springs, W.V.

Please register for all workdays.  This helps us better organize meals, work detail and shuttles.  THANK YOU!!

2023 Main Events

June 16-23 "W5" Held in Section 2 outside Elkins, WV in Stuart Recreation Area. This week long annual event is where members come to socialize and work on the ALT as a big team.  Saturday June 17th the annual member meeting is held at 6:45 pm, where members vote in new officers. Camping is free and dinner will be provided by WVSTA on Sat. June 17th. Come lend a hand - no skills needed! Volunteer jobs range from camp cook and shuttle driver to digging tread-work and clearing the trail.  If you want to help out, we’ll find a job for you!


Oct 6,7,8 "TREK" Located in Section 3 near Marlinton, W.V. This is a great event for beginners and seasoned hikers alike. This is a supported hike, meaning WVSTA organizes the distances and camping locations each day.  Each day WVSTA provides snacks, water, and shuttles.  Dinner is provided on Sat night. Bring a friend and come have fun with us !


Oct 21,22 Wild Food Weekend  This tasty annual event will be held in conjunction with a work weekend this year in Section 4 at Bear Branch near Camp Pocahontas.
