Hi everyone,

We’ve been busy preparing for several upcoming events across the economic justice space, and hope you’ll be able to join us virtually or in-person for one. Among the exciting things on the horizon:

  • Black Future Newsstand: A project of our Centering Blackness Fellow Alicia Walters and Media 2070, Maven is thrilled to be a co-sponsor and founding partner of this project which invites attendees to imagine a future where reparations are real and the media loves Black people. Several opportunities to engage with the content; ranging from magazines, mini-zines, newspapers, art, and other forms of media created for and by Black artists and writers; will take place in NYC the week leading up to Juneteenth. Find more details here.

  • EconCon 2023: Maven will co-sponsor this event June 8-9 in DC to bring together policy experts, organizers, advocates and policymakers to build an economy that works for all of us. In-person tickets are sold out, but you can register to attend virtually for free here. Both Jhumpa and Andrea will be panelists at this conference.

  • Join Jhumpa on June 13 for a conversation on how advocacy and narrative change are informing guaranteed income with the Asset Funders Network, “Centering Community Voices in Policy Advocacy and Design.” Register for free here.

We also want to flag a great panel Anne took part in on economic dignity with the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, “State of Black San Francisco." Her conversation begins at the 21:00 mark here:

We are also thrilled to continue our deep involvement with Debt Free Justice California, a multi-regional California-based coalition focused on putting a stop to the unfair ways the criminal legal system extracts wealth from Black and brown communities. This year we are advocating to bring much-needed change to California's youth restitution system. Please take a look at this op-ed written by our partners to learn how California is poised to remain a vanguard in addressing the harms of mass incarceration.

Our team is looking forward to a summer of rejuvenation, alongside the important work we’re all aligned in to center race, gender and joy in the pursuit of economic justice. We hope that you are also finding peace and hope on your own journey, both professional and personal.

With gratitude,

Team Maven
