Bodegas Muga is a family winery founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño. The first wines were made in an underground cellar, until 1968 when the family established their own winery in a beautiful old 19th-century manor situated in the city of Haro, a town and municipality in the northwest of La Rioja province in northern Spain.

Bodegas Muga's is renowned for their use of the finest materials, combining tradition with the latest advances in winemaking so as always to give their wines the very best quality without losing authenticity. They are the only wine cellar in Spain which employs their own in-house master cooper and coopers, who make all the vats for the cellar, as well as the oak casks by hand.

The winery remains true to traditional winemaking methods such as racking the casks by gravity and fining the wine with fresh egg whites. Bodegas Muga has succeeded in combining the purest family tradition with an updated vision of the future which has allowed them to preserve their own personality and character.

The following wines from Bodegas Muga are available on consignment through Vinexx / The Case For Wine:

Torre Muga 2019
With the 2019 Torre Muga vintage, we are presented with an elegant-looking wine, with good depth of colour, a rich red which denotes its youthfulness and potential for evolution. The nose reveals a deeply intense aroma of blackberries and strawberries. The smoked nuances from its ageing in the finest quality French oak come through, creating an unmatchable harmony. A powerful palate, with the same predominant aromas as on the nose, and a good balance between the alcohol and the acidity as well as smooth, elegant tannins. The finish is very long in the mouth, leaving a sensation of fullness.

Rated 98+ Points by @jebdunnuck:
"The 2019 Torre Muga is always a more powerful, ripe expression of Rioja that never loses its sense of place. Deep ruby/purple, with a glorious bouquet of cassis, graphite, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and crushed stone, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, pure, multi-dimensional texture, building tannins, and good acidity. It's young, unevolved, yet oh so promising. Hide bottles for 7-8 years if you can, and it will cruise for 20-30 years. The blend is 80% Tempranillo and the balance Mazuelo and Graciano, aged 18 months in French oak."

Rated 97 Points by @James.Suckling:
"Intense nose of black fruit, ink, roasted espresso, black truffle and dried rosemary. It’s full-bodied with so much power and concentration. Firm but very velvety and integrated tannins. Deep core of black fruit. Yet, it’s not heavy. Long. One for the cellar. Try this from 2027."

$109.95 each. Available in 6-packs.

Bodegas Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2015
This Gran Reserva Prado Enea displays an attractive, deep, dense cherry-red colour. A stylish nose of black fruits mingling with spices, gingerbread and licorice. The soft, supple entry on the palate leads to a sensation of gentle power and air-light volume underpinned by cashmere silky tannins, harmoniously balanced by fresh acidity. Creamy, vanilla notes come through in the finish with ripe fruit. This wine is tempting to drink now, but it will age well for years.

Rated 97 Points James Suckling:
"Reserved and polished, this is a Prado Enea with great class and focus. It’s so aromatic, with plum, peach, cherry and cedar character. Salted olives, too. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, fresh finish. Elegance with power here. Give it three or four years to open, but already impressive."

$86.95 each. Available in 6-packs.

Bodegas Muga Selección Especial 2018
This 2018 Selección Especial 2018 has a black-cherry colour and a deep robe. On the nose, it is complex, with aromas of dark fruit, hints reminding you of cedar wood, heathland scrub and then followed by spicy aromas such as pepper. The attack is elegant and harmonious, with hints of ripe red fruit and spices. It has fantastic, well-integrated acidity which makes it long and lingering on the palate. This is a powerful reserva wine with great cellaring potential.

This wine will go well with red meats, lamb and all types of game dishes.

Rated 96 Points by Wine Enthusiast:
Deep ruby in the glass, this wine offers a bouquet of black cherry, blackberry and licorice. Flavours of black currant, pomegranate, anisette, dark chocolate and black truffle are supported by plush tannins that drift into a cherry-tobacco finish.

$59.95 each. Available in 12-packs.
