There's a deluge of Rose out here competing for the attentions of our ice-buckets and so when we asked various French purveyors to send over some of their most popular examples, a ton of it landed on our door-step.  After stripping out the more obvious supermarket level options - we were left with a field of merely 40.

Then we looked at which were performing well regionally from the beaches of Pukhet to the shopping centres of Tokyo, and ended up with 15 glossy pink contenders, with a priority for the drier and more structured versions.

At this point we felt it wiser to invite a bunch of our thirstier rose-swilling specialists from the database. We slipped in our existing top-performing Roses and did the whole lot blind on a hazy Tuesday night.

Second in place behind Whispering Angel at 30% more - was Domaine Chapelle St Victor Rose Provence C d'Aix ...

A classy blend of indigenous Provencal varietals - it glistens with golden sunlight and rose pink in the glass. Its deftly blended and rushes forward aromatically. The palate is a succulent blend of strawberries, cranberry and peach. There's a flintiness and crunchy minerality that gives it grunt where it counts without sacrificing that certain audacious sense of fun that life demands when wearing nothing but a smile at the pool.

Mainly Grenache, then Cinsault & Syrah - its 100% organically made and is best served very cold. It will accompany any sort of casual food served with a BBQ fork in your hand...
