The 12th Caribbean Labour Ministers’ Meeting concluded

Under the auspices of Guyana’s Ministry of Labour and the International Labour Organization (ILO), the 12th Caribbean Labour Ministers’ Meeting was held on May 23-25 in Georgetown, Guyana. The meeting was attended by 13 Ministers of Labor from ILO member states and 9 non-metropolitan territories of the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean.

The objectives of the meeting were to: provide a forum to exchange perspectives on the global, regional, and national actions needed to accelerate the mainstreaming of social justice for transformative socio-economic development, to address labor migration as a potential enabler of decent work and an accelerating factor in the development of the Caribbean, and to examine the progress of the Caribbean in just transition policy.

ILO Launches World Employment and Social Outlook Report: Trends 2023

The ILO released a report with employment and social trends for 2023 to date that analyzes global patterns, regional differences, results by groups of workers and also offers projections of the labor market for the rest of 2023 and 2024.

Focusing on the trends in Latin America and the Caribbean, the report highlights that in the next period, given the reduction in the GDP growth rate, employment will slow down and will only be able to offset the growth of the working-age population, unemployment rates will not vary, and that the progress in formal employment creation that was recovered post-pandemic will stagnate, among other points on decent work and female employment.
