How bumpy is your life journey?

Dear Reader

Today I want to introduce you to a tool called the Wheel of Life. This tool is often used for coaching to plan our whole lives, or for time mastery.

I want you to go find a piece of paper and a pen. Let's make this an interactive session, you can draw with me.

So please pause the video right now. Go find a piece of paper and a pen and come back to the screen.

When we're ready to start, I want you to start by drawing a circle on your piece of paper. That's called your wheel of life. The idea is that this represents everything in your life - the bigger the wheel is and the smoother the wheel is, the more quality of life you will have, the faster you'll move, and the less bumpy the ride would be.

I want you to divide the circle into four parts - through the middle, draw a horizontal line and a vertical line and then divide each one of those again by drawing diagonal lines through them. Now you've got a set of eight segments to your wheel of life, or pizza slices. Each one of these pizza slices represents a different area of your life.

Let's say we start at the top and we say that is your career. The next one is maybe money, and the next one is health, and the next one romance, and the next one friends and family, and the next one personal growth, followed by fun and recreation, and the last your physical environment.

These wedges can be anything you choose, we've just chosen sort of the average ones.

The idea of this wheel is to take a snapshot of our life - where you are right now. If you look at this wheel of life, and you say to yourself, Okay, this is where I'm right now, how satisfied am I with each one of these areas?

I want you to write it down on a scale from zero in the middle of the circle to 10 on the outside. Zero to 10 - how happy are you right now with every one of those areas. How happy are you with your career out of 10 right now? Money, et cetera? Please go ahead and score yourself on each one of those pizza slices of your life.

I'll make one up as an example. Say this person is saying 6 out of 10 for career, 7 out of 10 for money, 8 out of 10 for health, 3 out of 10 for romance, 4 out of 10 for friends and family, etc. So this person's wheel of life looks something like this - shade that area underneath.

This is what this person's wheel of life is all about, just to give you an idea of what the wheel of life is all about. You can see that this person is going to have a bit of a bumpy ride, because some of them are fairly high, and then there are low point for romance, and a big low point for friends and family.

I want you to draw this for yourself and then make the decision, What are the areas in my life that I need to work on? Which of these areas am I not spending enough time in?

In this case of this person I am using as an example, I would recommend the person asks, What are you going to do about friends and family? How are you going to spend more time there so that you can get happier with that segment of your wheel of life? And maybe also for romance.

There you have it, that's your wheel of life. You should do this snapshot once a quarter and just task, How happy am I with these different areas of my will of life?

The Wheel of Life will serve you as a place to say, This is how I'm working on my life to make it better - happier, and my quality of life goes up.

I hope you found this helpful. More next week.
