On June 3, the Gilbert Water Tower will be lit orange to bring awareness to the need to End Gun Violence and to honor the thousands of victims of gun violence.
Please come out and support Moms Demand Action volunteers and community members who will gather around the water tower at 6:30 pm for the lighting at 7:15 pm. Look for the orange "End Gun Violence" signs and the Moms Demand Action table where volunteers will pass out orange glow sticks and popsicles.
Please wear orange, and feel free to bring your own sign. If you know someone who has been impacted by gun violence, bring a sign with their name on it to honor them.
Why wear orange? On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old from Chicago, marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. A week later, Hadiya was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago. Soon after this tragedy, Hadiya’s friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. Wear Orange is now observed every June to honor the thousands of victims of gun violence.
Wear Orange is June 2-4
