Youth get opportunity to explore manufacturing careers
Secondary school students and recent graduates will soon have access to short-term, paid work placements at local manufacturers through a new program designed to help build a future workforce.
In addition to paid work experience and industry-recognized training, youth will be able to receive credits toward secondary-school graduation and apprenticeship certification.
The initiative will be open to all B.C. youth and will promote the inclusion of under-represented groups, such as women and Indigenous people.

More kindergartners, families will benefit from pilot expansion
A pilot has expanded to nearly double the number of schools in B.C., providing more families with access to affordable early learning and child care, before and after school, conveniently located in the kindergarten classroom.
The province provided $3 million in 2022/23 to add 20 classrooms, expanding the Seamless Day Kindergarten pilot to 45 classrooms throughout the province, providing even more families of kindergarten-age students with access to affordable, quality, inclusive and convenient early learning and child care right in their kindergarten classroom.
Seamless Day helps to support children transitioning into kindergarten. It integrates before - and after-school care into the kindergarten classroom, giving families peace of mind knowing their children are learning and playing in one safe place all day.

Buy BC intake opens to support local food security, business growth
B.C.’s food and beverage producers, processors and industry associations can now apply for the next round of Buy BC funding to help increase sales of local food and beverage products, and strengthen the province’s food economy.
The Buy BC Partnership Program is providing $2 million this year to help eligible applicants undertake local marketing activities that increase consumer awareness and sales of local agriculture, food and beverage products.
Through the Buy BC Partnership Program, our government is ensuring homegrown products are highlighted while making it easier for consumers to buy B.C.

More people can pursue in-demand careers as early childhood educators
Many more early childhood educators (ECE) will attend post-secondary institutions throughout British Columbia, benefiting families, communities and the growing child care sector.
With an additional $16 million in provincial funding, more than 400 student spaces will be created.
In partnership with public post-secondary institutions, the province is accelerating the expansion of early childhood education programs so more than 1,300 people will have the opportunity to access this education over the next three years, with public post-secondary spaces in B.C. expected to increase by approximately 50%.
