COABE Journal Call for Articles
 
The “Professional Development” edition of the COABE Journal will be coedited by COABE and the Association of Adult Literacy Professional Developers (AALPD)  and seeks article submissions focusing on the importance, value, and impact of quality professional development (PD) for adult education teachers.

Submissions highlighting PD programs and techniques in face-to-face, online, and hybrid settings are of particular interest. Works focusing on PD for adult-focused program types and settings, such as high school equivalency, ABE, literacy, workforce, corrections, and ESOL, are encouraged. COABE Legislative Briefing in Washington, DC

COABE held a Legislative Briefing in Washington, DC, which featured two panels that made the case for additional funding for adult education. The first panel consisted of former adult learners who shared about the transformative value of adult education. The second panel featured adult education's role as a talent pipeline for the workforce and community colleges. COABE shared legislative recommendations and national data fact sheets with those who attended. Staff from Senate offices in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire and Tennessee and House districts CO-01 and AZ-06 attended the briefing. New Episode of COABE Advocast Available

Listen to Episode 10: "Organizing Effective Rallies." In this episode, hosts Erin Vobornik and Sarah Haghighi discuss the process for organizing effective rallies. You will hear from Jeff Campbell of the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association (IACEA) about adapting to virtual events, managing tasks, and engaging participants.  Madison Flannery, a former adult education student who is enrolled in Lewis and Clark Community College’s paralegal program also joined the discussion. Integrating Digital Literacy in HSE Instruction: A Free Resource From Essential Education

Naturalization Test Redesign

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites you to participate in a national engagement on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 2 - 3 p.m. Eastern, to learn more about the nationwide trial tests for the naturalization test redesign initiative. Register for the Online Entrepreneurship Institute

COABE's Online Entrepreneurship Institute equips adult educators and service providers with the content knowledge and 400+ free instructional resources to create Entrepreneurship Bridges and IETs as well as prepare their adult learners to pass the U.S. Entrepreneurship Certification Examination. However, the Institute content is extremely flexible and accessible to a variety of other adult education programs and easily customizable to organizational missions and target populations. Online modules are mostly self-paced and live Zoom classes feature introductions to supportive community resources, grassroots entrepreneurs who share "lessons learned," and breakout groups for WIOA and cross-state/agency networking, collaboration, resource sharing, and planning.
