20 undergraduate students, smilingLTER Network Orientation for REUs

LTER sites—and research—are remarkably varied. Please join Dr. Evelyn Gaiser, Chair of the LTER Executive Board and Marty Downs, Director of the LTER Network Office, for an introduction to the types of research conducted at LTER sites and the principles that guide our program. Learn what's happening across the LTER Network, what opportunities that might present, and how to stay connected.

Watch the Lightning Talks from the 2023 Science Council Meeting

At our annual Science Council meeting earlier this month, sites gave 5 minute lightning talks on spatial scaling. The recordings are up on YouTube, and they're a great way to explore our network and see the variety of science conducted across sites.

This year's Science Council field trip was remarkably well documented—two photographers and a video team accompanied the group! Check out the two photo galleries below:

DEIA Resource of the Month

Supporting neurodiverse students in your internship program

(YouTube video 1hr:27min)

Summer internship season is upon us (the network is engaged with over 100 REU's this year!), and we strive for every student to have a well supported, positive experience during their summer. This recorded webinar, hosted by NCAR and UCAR, has excellent background on neurodiversity and covers tactics for supporting neurodiverse interns through a summer program.

Tweets of the Month

We often see the results of research—the published papers, the Twitter summaries, the polished presentations—but rarely do we get to peek behind the scenes to see how all that fieldwork gets done. Turns out, to get to the ice in the Arctic, you get lowered down in a cage! That doesn't come across in a journal publication!

And, another shoutout to KBS for hosting our All Scientists Meeting this month. There's so much going on at the site—from education initiatives, art and science collaborations, partnerships with other organizations, and more—and we learned all about it from the folks involved. It was such a good time—can't wait until the next Science Council!
