First whole RX2e season for Filip Thorén as he joins this year’s grid

  • Thorén had already raced in a few rounds the previous years
  • The Swede will have to fight against more experienced drivers in RX2e
  • Filip Thorén has been testing with the ZEROID X1 to improve his overall performance ahead of the start of the season

May 19th 2023, Barcelona - After two seasons where he competed in a few races, this year, Filip Thorén will join the FIA RX2e grid for the whole season. The Swede already raced in this category in the two last rounds in its inaugural season in 2021 and in three races last season. “My goal this season is to continue my development as a driver, making progress more consistently towards the front end of the field”, Thorén says. “Hopefully we make it to at least a couple of finals this year”, he adds.

To do so, Thorén will be up against several series regulars such as 2022 RX2e Champion Viktor Vranckx; and last year’s runner-up and third classified, Isak Sjökvist and Nils Andersson as well as other new arrivals. This season also feels different because there have been some upgrades both in the car and in the racing format. “The boost in power is, of course, a nice addition to the 2023 season, the car feels even more connected to me as a driver and gives the option to send it even harder”, states Thorén, regarding the increase in power and the new push to pass mode that have been introduced for this season. “But most of all I really enjoy the new race format, making this season back to the great RX-format again. Semifinals is always the most exciting time of the weekend”, he remarks.
The young Swede started karting at the age of seven, and raced in national events until the age of fifteen but then took a break from motorsport before returning to the traditional Swedish folkracing circuit in 2018. This taste of competition led to Thorén catching the racing bug once more, and a full-time entry into the 2020 Junior Swedish Rallycross Championship followed. His first season in the category, driving at the wheel of his BMW E36, resulted in a sixth-place finish and 2021 started off with a podium at Höljes but a campaign of mixed fortunes ultimately led to eighth overall.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Filip Thorén has been testing with ZEROID X1, the car used in RX2e, to get comfortable with it, try to improve his lap times and overall performance to prepare for the Championship. “The amount of testing ahead of this season really has got me going again, making some steady progress and actually raising my confidence level sky high ahead of the first event”, Thorén proclaims.

The new RX2e season will start at Hell, Norway on June 17th-18th. For more information about RX2e, please visit the official website at www.fia-rx2e.com.
