Bread for the World
Offering of letters
On May 21, 2023 we will be writing letters asking Congress to support the Farm Bill, our nation’s most important national food system legislation.
Have you ever gone without food so that your children could eat? Have you worried about how poor nutrition will affect your child's learning ability? Do you work full time (or more) and still can't make enough to adequately feed your family?
Millions of people here in the US and around the world find themselves in those situations every day. What can we here at First Pres do? Join with other churches around the country to engage in action through letter writing to express our concern and demand action from our elected officials.
We will be writing our letters before and after the service. In addition, we will have a representative from Bread for the World during our Adult Ed class (in-person and via Zoom) to talk about the Farm Bill.
For those joining us online, here are links for more information about the Farm Bill, a sample letter, instructions and a list of the addresses of our local Congressional Representatives and Senators. Send a quick email to info@firstpresalbany.org to let us know you sent your letter.
God’s grace in Jesus Christ moves us to help our neighbors, whether they live in the next house, the next state, or the next continent.
What can one church do? Plenty!! Send those letters!

The 2023 Albany CROP Hunger Walk was a great success. So far the amount raised as of 5/16 was $85, 515 and we are still counting!
25% of the final total will come back to the Albany area to support food pantries. This demonstrates our commitment to taking action to confront hunger and food insufficiency here at home as well as globally.
First Pres reached and surpassed the goal of $1,500 we set. We raised more than $2,600, almost doubling our goal.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our success, by donating money and/or by walking.
If you would like to contribute to the WALK, you still have time. You can donate by check, (make out to CWS), make a donation through the CWS website to First Presbyterian Albany, or if you prefer, make a cash donation by placing the funds in a First Presbyterian envelope. The ultimate deadline is June 7th.
Once again, thank you to all for supporting a campaign to end hunger.

We are looking forward to having our potluck picnic with Walls Temple AME Zion Church that is now scheduled for June 10th. We apologize for the delay but hope that many of you will join us at that time. We will meet at 1:00 PM at the Walls Temple Church and picnic outside on their lawn.
Come make new friends! Bring a dish to share. There will also be some hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. We are planning some outdoor games with plenty of laughter. Children are welcome and we will have some children’s games. We will be able to move inside if there is rain.
We are still planning to put a combined cookbook together but there is no pressure to get this done before the picnic. Please consider handing in a recipe to be included.
