Aloha Friday Big Island,

It's been a busy 24 hours. Most recently, a water main break this morning caused a section of Aliʻi Drive in Kona to close due to flooding and road damage. Repairs are expected to take six hours.

Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green, a former emergency room doctor, was on his way Thursday to a blessing of the Big Islandʻs largest renewable energy project in Waikōloa when he saw an overturned vehicle on the side of the road and stopped to help.

In other news, the Hawaiʻi County Council approved the first reading of a $1.19 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year; the 29-year-old who critically shot a man in Honokaʻa was out on supervised release for previous crimes; the voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa was scheduled to depart Juneau for Yakutat this morning to begin the first leg of the Alaska Heritage Sail; and much more.

Mahalo for reading.
