The day when sacred river Ganga descended on earth from heaven is an auspicious day in Vedic Tradition. This day it is therefore celebrated as Ganga Dussehra every year. Rishi Bhagirath after performing continued and stiff meditation for so many prolonged years requested Ganga to take Avatar on the earth to remove the sins of miserable people on earth.
This year it is falling on the 30th of May. This day is considered to be cleansing time of all our sins. On this day of the year that particular law of nature becomes more lively which can intervene for our bad deeds. Symbolically, it is the day when knowledge overcomes darkness. The true meaning of Dussehra is to remove the “Ten Principal Sins", implying removing darkness by bringing more light.
Since ancient times Ganga is the source of purifying of intellectual knowledge and sanctity at mind and body level. Due to this reason Ganga is called the 'River of knowledge, purity, unity and enlightenment'. Performing Yagya and doing meditation on this very auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra is an ultimate purifying process of long accumulated wrongdoings in worldly affairs.
