Hi Friend-

Farming is not easy. That fact was underscored last week as nighttime temperatures dipped below freezing bringing an unprecedented late season frost and jeopardizing crops - especially fruits that were beginning to bud. We need to appreciate how hard our farmers and farm laborers work and the sacrifices they make to bring us beautiful, healthy and delicious produce every week. As you pick out your items, consider checking in with the folks growing our food and including an extra "thank you" with your payment.

Browse through the long list of vendors below and get excited for another gorgeous afternoon on the plaza. Kara from Ahlbin's Homemade joins us with her remarkable fire cider. If you've never had it, I encourage you to try a sample.

Peter Blanchette returns to Tuesday Market with his unique archguitar. We are truly blessed to have such a talented and widely renowned musician in the neighborhood.

See you at the market!

At Red Fire Farm our warm weather greenhouse grown crops are starting to ripen!  This includes the Persian style thin skinned greenhouse cucumbers and some bumpy pickling cucumbers.  Also in the greenhouse, the first sungold cherry tomatoes are ripening, but supply is very limited on those at first, so you must arrive very early to market if you want some.

Late May is also peak asparagus season. We grow two types of asparagus including the traditional green varieties such as Jersey King, but also purple varieties (Purple Passion). Spears are a bit more tender and sweet on the purple!

We will continue to haul a huge selection of garden plants to markets for the duration of May, including many varieties of exciting heirloom and hybrid tomato plants.

In case you missed it, there was a great article about New England Wild Edibles and Paul Lagreze in the Gazette last week written by Jacob Nelson of CISA. You can read the article here, and visit Paul every Tuesday at the market!

Ahlbin's sources most ingredients from our local farms: Old Friends Farm in Amherst, Apex Orchards in Shelburne, and Shelburne Honey in Shelburne.   Not only do people use fire cider to help boost immunity, but it’s also delicious added to salad dressings, soup, cocktails and so much more!
Meadowfed Lamb returns this week with their silvopasture-raised lamb, new types of sausage, rainbow eggs, and natural Finn wool products. Visit their booth to learn about their unique farm!
