Paddle Zenith Out of Town

Land and Water Rally to End the Era of Fossil Fuels

Join us June 11th@11 am at Cathedral Park as we say it's time to end the fossil fuel era and in Portland, ZENITH HAS TO GO! Our political leaders have broken their promises at all levels of government, so we need to continue building our movement for a safe and livable planet.

Kayaktavistas will take to the water as well as action on land. This is part of a national week of action to demand Biden use his executive powers to declare a climate emergency and locally, demand Portland City Council rescind their approval of Zenith’s dangerous oil trains.

The Pacific Northwest has demonstrated before its strong people-powered climate movement. It's time to do it again. With enough people we can demonstrate that our collective power is more influential than the backdoor payments from fossil fuel companies. Let us know if you are coming. RSVP here

Portland's Climate Investment Plan (CIP)

Help Shape Priorities for Portland Emission Reductions

The Portland Clean Energy Fund spends millions of dollars annually in efforts to reduce emissions in ways that most benefit frontline communities.  We urge you to share your input on the full draft of the Climate Investment Plan. The full draft contains details on program elements and updated goals and strategies.
For ideas on feedback contact us at info@xrpdx.org.

Input opportunities include:

Oregon's Increased Investment in Fossil Fuels

Divest Oregon reports that the Oregon Treasury increased by 25% its investment in fossil fuels from 2021 to 2022.  The increase is probably greater as this information comes only from the 40% of total investments that are public information, the rest is in private investments that are not known.  This increase is from 5.3 billion dollars to 6.6 billion.  If you are a PERS member or beneficiary and are willing to testify before the Oregon Investment Council regarding the urgent need for divestment, not increasing investment, please contact Sue Palmiter at spalmiter@divestoregon.org. Good support is provided for those willing to testify. Learn more

Tell Governor Kotek to Take a Stand Against GTN XPress

Join 350pdx in contacting Governor Kotek. If built, GTN XPress would be a significant threat to our climate, safety, and public health. Methane gas pipelines leak throughout the production, transpot, and consumer process, causing health risks including respiratory disease and asthma fo everyone who lives near the pipeline and proposed compressor station in Eastern Oregon. It's critical we let Governor Kotek know that Oregonians oppose the project. We need investments in a just transition to clean energy and energy efficiency. Governor Kotek promised she'd stand against this project on her campaign trail, but we still haven't heard anything from her office.

FILM REVIEW:
Review of Once a Braided River by Barbara Bernstein and Atomic Bamboozle by Jan Haaken
By Mark Darienzo

Excerpt: These two important documentaries, although different, are very connected in their opposition to industries that do not care about the health of the people or planet we live on.

Once a Braided River by Barbara Bernstein is essentially a documentary about the dark side of capitalism that takes place along the north reach of the Willamette River in North Portland where the residents were marginalized and the environment decimated. Read full review
