How important is Pentecost?

For some Christians Pentecost is understood only as an important, historical event, the day in which the Holy Spirit was given to the Apostle’s to reveal and to empower them. Others look at the gift that was given to the Apostle’s and assume that it is God’s will that we should all be gifted in a like manner. Neither are accurate. The Holy Spirit continues His work. He does not give us the gifts that were given to the Apostle’s, but continues to work through their witness and words.

Martin Luther describes the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in this way:

“I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him;

but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel,

enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.

In the same way  He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies

the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.”

LUTHERANS ENGAGE!

Concordia has a new, community partner!  With the help of a grant from the Welborn Foundation our congregation is going to be able to provide our neighborhood school, Evans, to make improvements to their facility.

Would you like to know more about what is being done?

Would you like to help us develop a relationship with our neighbors at Evans School?

Contact Pastor Wiist.

War is a reality in this world, but so is the love of Christ!

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod has created a refugee grant program to help congregations that would like to support Ukranian refugees displaced by war.

If you would like to know more contact Pastor Wiist.

Want to do more than just grill hot dogs on Memorial Day?

Are you looking for a way to support our troops?

If there is enough interest our congregation could participate in the LCMS “Adopt-a-chap” program. There is no financial commitment to this program; however, it would give our congregation the opportunity to connect with one of our many military chaplains through prayer and conversation.

If you would like to help get this program off of the ground at Concordia contact Pastor Wiist

We also continue to need volunteers at:

our Lutheran Food Pantry and helping with devotions at ARC, Easter Seals, and Jacob’s Village.

God bless us as we seek to be Lutherans that Engage!
