RUE TIAY RELEASES HER SECOND SINGLE FOR 2023, "SLEEP PARALYSIS (JAMES DEAN)"
STREAM | OUT MAY 26

rue tiay is an emerging psychedelic pop artist living on Gadigal land. Hailing from Iraq, rue tiay’s family fled war when she was a child, and her introduction to songwriting was a cathartic release from ‘survivor's guilt.' Fast forward a decade or two her mission is to help individuals connect through grasping that loneliness and sadness are natural parts of the human condition and be that validation. Releasing her single "My Demons Keep Me Company" in April this year, rue tiay is back with her latest single "Sleep Paralysis (James Dean)" out on May 26!

The track was produced & mixed by none other than Emmy-award winning producer and former guitarist of 5-time ARIA nominated band Thirsty Merc, Sean Carey at Church Street Studios in Sydney. After Sean added his magic to the already stunning tune, mastering for "Sleep Paralysis (James Dean)" was provided by Kathy Nauton at dB Mastering.

"I’ve had sleep paralysis since I was a child. Many are quick to share why they believe I still have this as an adult. I’ve never been one to adopt an allegorical approach to writing, so although sleep paralysis might not be something that everyone experiences in their lifetime, everyone can relate to receiving unsolicited opinions, probably daily," rue says on her latest track's meaning.

She adds, "I was going through a stressful breakup at the time, and was given too many opinions about why I would wake up with a demon in my face every morning (IYKYK). Interestingly enough, no one wanted to address that it may be related to the breakup. The violins drive the violent dream-like state, while the piano acts as the calming agent throughout the song. Let this song be a toast to acknowledging bad things that have happened to you in the past, and moving forward - without unsolicited opinions (or demons) chasing you. "

rue tiay has spent most her life hiding behind her guitar, other than a brief hiatus where she trained as a scientist, then doctor in her early 20’s, before retreating to music full time in 2023. She records and releases independently through Church Street Studios in Sydney, under the watchful eye of Emmy Award winning producer Sean Carey, and studio musicians whose talents are nothing short of wizardry (could be a violin bow, could be a phoenix feather wand).

To celebrate the release of "Sleep Paralysis (James Dean)", rue will be launching the single at Church Street Studios, Camperdown, Sydney on Friday 23rd June. Tickets will be $25 (no door tickets) with doors opening 7.30pm with supporting acts Alyssa Cavaleri and FINCH
. Tickets are here, we can't wait to see you all there!
