Hello friends.
We are on the doorstep of the preeminent high school track meet of the year, the Nike Outdoor Nationals.
When you think of the biggest starts of our sport today, who do you think of? Athing Mu, Anna Hall, Sydney McLaughlin, Grant Fisher, Noah Lyles, Galen Rupp, Grant Holloway, Mondo Duplantis, Christian Coleman. All of these athletes competed in NSAF’s National Outdoor High School Track and Field Championships. To be exact, in its 31 years of existence, 753 Olympians have competed in NSAF National Track and Field Championships. 193 have earned medals.
The future superstars of our sport will descend on Eugene, OR June 15 – 18 on the incomparable Hayward Field to experience the “Hayward Magic” so many athletes have come to know and love.
.
The list of athletes is spectacular. Here is a small sample of the mind-blowing, generational talents that will be on hand for four days of jaw-dropping competition.
Mia Brahe-Pedersen, a junior from Lake Osewego won her state 100m championship in an eye popping 11.00, the 3rd fastest US High School time ever and 4th fastest World U20 ever.
Hana Moll (Capital, Olympia, WA) was the first US High Schooler and the world’s only U20 athlete to clear 15-0 in outdoor competition. And her sister, Amanda Moll, is the first US High Schooler and the world’s highest pole vaulter ever at 15’1/12” which she accomplished indoors.
Connor Burns, Southern Boone (Ashland, MO), Simeon Birnbaum (Rapid City, SD) and Rocky Hansen (Arden, NC) have already dropped under 4 minutes in their high school careers. Those three plus Lex and Leo Young (Newbury Park, CA) will be at NON in a stunning field that is arguably the best high school mile field ever assembled. The highest number of sub 4 high schoolers in the same race is two. NON, could have 5!
Oregon City (OR) senior Sophia Beckmon leapt 22’ 4” to record the third longest jumper in the US this year at any level!
Rodrick Pleasant (Serra, Gardena, CA), Maurice Gleaton (Langston Hughes, Fairburn, GA), Ernest Campbell (Refugio,TX), Ashton Torns (Austin Westlake, TX) and John Sherman III (LaVergne, TN) have all run sub 10.32 for 100 meters this season.
