Greetings ranch friends, supporters, and donors! May is ASPCA’s Adopt a Horse Month. This month’s newsletter spotlights some of our adoptable herd members and features some very special EOI adoption success stories. Meet Mocha!

Mocha joined the herd in February 2022. He is gentle, easy to halter and walk, and has trail riding experience. Mocha is 25 years old, is very sweet and friendly, and has some personality quirks for sure!

Introducing Mocha others takes some time and patience. He gets anxious if he is bonded to another horse and that horse is taken out. He has been given clearance by our vet to be ridden again and just needs a little re-start to get back into shape.

Meet Maggie!

Maggie is registered Quarter Horse who has been diagnosed with Wobbler Syndrome. Due to her condition, she cannot be ridden or driven, but would make an excellent companion horse. In the words of one of our volunteers - “How is Maggie not adopted yet? She’s like an oversized golden retriever!”

Indeed, Maggie has a super sweet personality and is very people friendly. Maggie adores attention, so she would love a home where someone would care for her and make her feel extra special.

We have a number of other herd members in our care looking for their forever home, like Maisie who loves to be groomed and needs that special someone in her life, or Sassy, our resident socialite who runs to the fence to greet everyone who passes by. Adoption Stories

Paco’s (Apollo) Story

Paco was scheduled to be euthanized but rescued by EOI just in the nick of time in early 2022. Paco was easy to handle, a perfect gentleman, and would greet us with his deep voice. Later that year he found his forever home through adoption. In addition to a new home, Paco got a new name - Apollo! Apollo loves to run around and show off his bucking skills to his new friends. His mom says her favorite thing he does is turns his head to nod as to say goodbye to her when she leaves. We are so happy Apollo was given a second chance!

Rose’s Story

Rose is a thoroughbred rescued from the Powell Butte racehorse scam in 2012 and was a herd mate of Sassy, Paige, and CJ for years. Enter Judith... Judith was looking for a companion for her senior horse, Dulcita, and came to EOI and bonded with Rose, adopting her a couple of years ago. Rose bonded instantly with Dulcita and settled in quickly. She was quiet, friendly, and would patiently allow the young children in the area to interact with her. Dulcita sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge recently which was hard for both Judith and Rose, but they have each other and that bond remains strong.

These are just a few of the many stories we hear of the companionship rescued horses can add to the lives of humans and other equines alike, despite perhaps being unrideable, senior, or from a difficult background. Please reach out to us today if you have an interest in adoption or foster!
