Join us in the Jubilee Garden in front of the church immediately following worship this Sunday, May 28.  Our gardeners will be there to give you a tour, answer questions, show how you can help us compost, and share their love for gardening in this beautiful space. Enjoy some refreshments as you bask in God’s glorious creation!

This summer YOU are helping us plan the sermons and music by sharing your favorites! Each Sunday during our "Wonderful Words of Life" series, the scripture and hymns will be drawn from favorites submitted by the congregation. We will also provide opportunities each week for people to share why that scripture or worship song is meaningful to them if they would like to do so.

Click here to share yours and help us create a summer of inspiring worship!

The Outreach Committee and the Lanzas are hosting an outreach picnic on Thursday, June 1 at 6:00 pm at the Lanzas' house (. Come learn about two of our fabulous ministry partners: Room in the Inn and Be the Neighbor. We rely on congregational support to provide meals and host these organizations throughout the summer. The sign up picnic is a fantastic way to get more involved in two ministries that make a big difference in our community! Learn more and RSVP here: https://bit.ly/outreachpicnic23

On Sunday, June 4 our own Rowan Schlotterbeck is hosting a fundraiser luncheon in fellowship hall immediately after worship. The lunch will benefit the Pointer Scholarship Fund, and serves as Rowan's capstone project for the Chapman University Youth Leadership Symposium. Please plan to stay for lunch and enjoy grilled favorites and featured speakers sharing stories about the impact of church camp!

On Sunday, June 11 we will take time to recognize our congregation's graduates at the end of the 11:00 am worship service. If you or someone in your family graduated this year we would love to recognize you! Just send an email to office@ridgleachristian.org with information about your graduation (date, institution, degree program, etc) and we will plan to celebrate that accomplishment in worship!

On Saturday, June 10 at 11:00 am we are excited to host Mark Dingler's ordination to Christian ministry! Our congregation is sponsoring Mark in the ordination process, and we are thrilled that he recently graduated from Yale Divinity School and received final approval for ordination. We hope you're able to join us for this special service in the sanctuary or online!

We are excited to welcome Carissa Robinson, who began serving as our Summer Ministry Intern this week! Carissa just finished her third semester as a Master of Divinity student at Brite Divinity School. She grew up as a missionary kid in Venezuela and has also spent time working in Bolivia and teaching elementary school here in the United States. Carissa is married with three kids, lives in Crowley, and found her way to Disciples through Galileo Church. She coordinated with Ryan Wilkerson before he departed for Iowa to ensure a smooth handoff as she joins our staff and assists with worship, youth/children's programs, outreach partnerships, and more.

If you didn't get to introduce yourself to Carissa last Sunday, be sure to greet her this week! You can also contact her at carissa@ridgleachristian.org.

Mark your calendars: This summer our church will have a Vacation Bible School program for kids July 16-19! VBS will kick off with waterslides and a cookout dinner on the evening of Sunday, July 16 followed by morning programming Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. This year's theme is "Re:New" and will focus on the Parable of the Sower while incorporating lots of green and garden-related activities. Whether you're a kid participant or a youth/adult volunteer we hope to see you there!

Youth Summer Break

Youth and children's programming is on break for the summer. Stay tuned, because Carissa, the new summer ministry intern, will have some special activities planned for the summer in addition to camps and VBS!

On April 23, the Pastor's Book Club kicked off an 8-week study of Jesus and John Wayne by Kristin Kobes Du Mez. Russ leads the group each Sunday from 4:15-5:15 pm, and you're welcome to participate in-person in the church library, virtually on Zoom, or watch a recording of the session afterward. (Click here for the video of the first meeting.)

In her bestselling book, Du Mez (Professor of History at Calvin University) provides an insightful overview of the last seventy-five years of white evangelicalism, revealing how many American evangelical leaders have worked to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism. The book helps make sense of many of the controversies, political alliances, and cultural faultlines that are shaping the world around us today.

To join the study, email Russ at russ@ridgleachristian.org. You can order copy of the book through the church for $10, purchase your own (physical or E-book), or borrow a library copy.

Interested in making (or learning to make)
prayer shawls?

Over the years, our church's Prayer Shawl Ministry has knitted, blessed, and presented shawls to many individuals and families experiencing a difficult time or significant life event. Whether it's the loss of a loved one, the birth of a child, or treatment for cancer, a prayer shawl provides a warm embrace that reminds the recipient of God's love and the prayers and support of our church community.

You're welcome to join in if you are interested in knitting or crocheting prayer shawls! Whether you want to learn how to knit for the first time or you've been at it for years, your presence is welcome. The group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 1:00 pm in the church library. If you're interested or would like more information, email Brenda at bwentworth666@gmail.com or let any of the church staff know.
