Jarrettown Hotel Restaurant

If the unsettling thought of encountering a ghost while having dinner is of no particular concern to you, then I present for your dining consideration, the historic Jarrettown Hotel Restaurant in Dresher, PA. Legend has it that, on several occasions, unexpected apparitions have been seen roaming on the second floor of the “inn”, including the unexplained and evanescent “Lady in White”. There have also been reports of female customers who have been “politely” accosted by spirits while attempting to use the second floor rest room. So, you may want to bring a flashlight and Proton Pack if you plan on exploring the restaurant’s premises during your visit

The Jarrettown Hotel, which dates back to 1847, has been owned and managed by Giovanni Agresti since 2008. Originally, the building was constructed for use as an inn and tavern for travelers passing through the area. Over the years, ownership changed hands several times until 2007 when it was purchased by the Jarrettown Village Associates. At that time, the restaurant underwent extensive restoration with the hope of maintaining the beauty of the original building and preserving its warm ambiance. I would have to say these goals were successfully met! Please note, though, that the establishment is no longer used as an actual overnight inn or hotel.

QUICK BITES
It's Water Ice Season!

Thanks to our Mid-Atlantic accents we prefer it pronounced "wooder ice"... and to me (and I am sure many of our readers as well), it's not shaved ice, Italian ice, fruit ice, or sorbet... it's simply "wooder ice"! Nothing marks the start of the summer season like a quick trip to Via Veneto's for a cup (however this delicacy can be enjoyed all year long)! If you are interested in reading more about this unexplained regional phenomenon, checkout this write-up in paeats.org. Happy Water Ice season y'all! Enjoy!

Montco brewers taking part in Memorial Day release to support Veterans

For those of you who may have missed it last week, this one is for too good a cause not to re-run ON Memorial Day Weekend! Per an article from our pals over at breweriesinpa.com, "For the fourth year in a row, craft breweries from across Pennsylvania have joined together for the return of an all-Pennsylvania Veterans beer collaboration. The beer is brewed by Pennsylvania Veterans in support of Pennsylvania Veterans. “Adapt And Overcome: Got Your Six” will release all throughout Pennsylvania on Memorial Day Weekend 2023 with proceeds of sales going directly to the Keystone Military Families organization. Since 2019, the PA Veterans’ Collaboration Beer has raised over $60,000 dollars to support fellow Pennsylvania veterans."

What an awesome cause and collaboration! Read more on it here, and be sure to support!

...the rest of Andrew's Spotlight

The focus of the Jarrettown Hotel is to present fine dining in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. As you enter the restaurant you will arrive in a lively, convivial lounge area with a full bar, a few tables and, on some weekends, live music. Beyond the bar, there is ample seating in the main dining room or on the enclosed porch. Space for private parties (up to 100 guests) is available upstairs while a cozy stone-walled wine cellar room is ideal for a small meeting or intimate gathering.

Patti and I have often referred to the Jarrettown Hotel as our “go-to” place to dine. Its close proximity to our home and its wonderful food make it a natural place for us to “grab lunch” or enjoy a more stately dinner. On this particular rainy spring evening, we began our meal with well crafted martinis followed by very satisfying salads. Patti ordered the Burrata Caprese (“excellent creamy burrata cheese”) and I enjoyed the Red Beet and Goat Cheese salad (“very refreshing”). Subsequently, we chose our entrees among a wide array of grill-fired pizzas, fish, chicken, meat and pasta offerings. Patti ultimately settled on the Sesame Encrusted Ahi Tuna while I selected a favorite of mine, the Mediterranean Grouper entrée. Both of these entrees are superb! The Ahi tuna was prepared rare, as intended, and the quality of the fish and wasabi sauce was excellent. The grouper is served “Francese” style in a delicate white wine and lemon sauce with mushrooms and asparagus over angel hair pasta. I will never tire of this perpetually delectable dish! Finally, while Patti abstained, I ended my meal with a slice of crème brûlée cheesecake which was a perfect complement to my earlier choices.

Our dining experience closed with warming cups of tasty American coffee. Then we said our goodbyes, grabbed our umbrellas, and dashed through raindrops to our nearby car. As usual, our dinner at Jarrettown was another dependably excellent meal, and, most certainly, we were grateful to spend an entire evening there knowing that we avoided confrontation with the “looming” second-story ghosts!
