Replay: In bookstores and online!

Big thanks to all readers who showed up, online or in person (or both), to give my new graphic novel memoir REPLAY such a warm reception in its first three weeks of release!

You can check out the first reviews, read my blog post explaining the project, and order a copy of the graphic novel (or pre-order the English edition) on the Replay book page

Upcoming signings

If you're in France (or know someone who is), come say hello and pick up your signed copy of Replay, with a drawing by me on the spot! The French editions of my other books (Monte Cristo, Templiers, and La Création de Prince of Persia) will be on hand, too; I'll be happy to sign those for you as well.

Free DLC: The Replay Annex is now online!

Readers of the French edition may have noticed a discreet QR code on the very last page of the book. This is a gateway to the online Replay Annex (in French and English), a chapter-by-chapter "director's commentary" in which I share details about the creative process, real-life events, and archival materials behind REPLAY. It includes images, video and audio, and links to additional resources.

If you've enjoyed Replay and are interested in a deeper dive (whether into 20th century history, my family's story, or the behind-the-scenes of my 1980s and 90s video games), check out the Annex. (Chapters 1 and 2 are up, as of this moment. Next chapters are coming soon.)

Revisiting The Last Express

Last week, I released the fourth in my series of video game-inspired author's tribute artworks, "Departure." In the same format as its Prince of Persia predecessors, "Departure" is a signed and numbered, mouse-stamped limited edition of 40 prints (and 10 in a larger 60x40 cm size). Prints are available exclusively here.

My blog post explains the genesis of "Departure," and its special links to both The Last Express and Replay. Players of The Last Express may recognize its immediate inspiration in the game's opening sequence, which you can watch here. Even after 25 years, Elia Cmiral's score still gives me goosebumps.

Library of goodies

If your current wall space or budget for collectible video-game artwork is already spoken for, I've added some new desktop and mobile wallpaper packs this month to the free downloadable goodies in the Library. Take your pick from Replay, Monte Cristo and Templar; more games and books will be added soon.

And if you find yourself feeling nostalgic for 1990s point-and-click adventure games, or just for the way the internet used to be: In an archival coup, we've reinstated the original 1997 website for The Last Express. (Warning: Like the 1914 magazines found in the train's restaurant car, this is provided for historical purposes only. Anyone attempting to use the links to purchase a boxed copy of a Broderbund game may be disappointed.)
Prince of Persia 2's 30th anniversary

30 years ago this month in San Francisco, Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame went gold master. After celebrating with the team, I headed to Paris to dive into research for my next game, The Last Express.

You can read about these activities in day-to-day 1993 detail as I wrote about them in my journal at the time. This "blog from the past" is updated each week on the 30-years-ago-journals page of my website's Library.

Some have asked if I plan to release a book "The Making of The Last Express." I'm honestly not convinced that my post-1993 journals would work as a stand-alone volume. For now, you can read them for free on the website. I'll keep posting a new installment every week, until... We'll see!
Prince of Persia 2 fête ses 30 ans !

As of this month, my 1993 journals website page is now bilingual. Many thanks to Geoff Delmotte and Didier Braibant for their hard work translating the journals into French.

You can also read my blog post about the 30th anniversary, the release of POP 2 and the beginning of The Last Express (in French or English).

Upcoming Events

There's so much more in the works, I'd better save the rest for next month's newsletter. Until then, you can find me at the REPLAY book signings mentioned above; I'll share details about other events via social media when confirmed. Otherwise, I'll mostly have my head down, working on next projects.

Meanwhile, I hope you'll check out the Library, Replay Annex, and Replay book page -- in French or English!
If you know someone who may also enjoy this newsletter, please feel free to forward it to them. Thanks!
