Here is your update for May 24, 2023. 
Hello to everyone on this upcoming holiday weekend, one in which we often recognize as an unofficial start to the summer.  Just a reminder, Emory University is closed on Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day. Please take this time in remembering those who gave their lives while serving and also, be thinking of those who have lost someone they love. Thank you to all within our OLLI support system for your sacrifice.

Hopdoddy's Burger Bar meet-up is tomorrow, Thursday, May 25, 2-4pm. at 2470 Briarcliff Rd NE Ste 47, Atlanta, GA 30329. (Formally Grub Burger Bar on Briarcliff)  We currently have 16 members signed up to attend.  It's not too late to join in, just sign-up here to let us know you are coming!  We hope you will join us in the fun, because we look forward to seeing you!

Join Emory Medical Students on Monday, June 5th, 1:30PM Presentation
H. Pylori: How Stomach Ulcers Won a Nobel Prize
Come join students from the Emory School of Medicine for their final presentation of the year and learn about how a unique medical finding solved a century-old mystery while earning a Nobel Prize in medicine for its discoverer. We’ll give a brief overview on this historical topic before delving into an overview on symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment of stomach ulcers. We look forward to seeing you there!

Parsing Sir Gawain and The Green Knight

Monday's 10-11am, starting June 5, 4-weeks



In this class we’ll examine the themes, structure, diction, and poetic devices that make “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” such a delightful and sophisticated poem, even in translation. We’ll look at the poem’s roots in Arthurian legend before diving into each of its four parts to analyze the text and determine what is realistic, what is fantastic, and what is allegorical. This four-week course will introduce four Georgia artists from a variety of artistic perspectives such as fabric art, choreography, and the visual arts.

June 1 - Ricardo Aponte is the founder and artistic Director of the Theatre Platform Project and is an Atlanta based director/choreographer. His work has been seen in most of Atlanta's theaters. He has taught for Emory's OLLI program for the past six years teaching dance classes to adults 50+.

June 8 - Elizabeth Katherine Porcel completed foundational studies at the Pratt Institute and completed her BFA in painting at Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta. Her studio practice has been focused on the reflection of the feminine divine in nature, biology and bestiaries.

June 15 - Holly Nelson is a fabric artist in Blairsville, Ga. teaching felting and dyeing classes for over 17 years. She offers over 20 different classes in dyeing, ecoprinting, wet felting and needle felting. Holly observes that the versatility of the fiber arts is broad and amazing making both visual 2D artwork, sculptural 3D artwork, and wearables as well as functional pieces for the home.

June 22 - Lisa Tuttle - Her most recent project, Postcolonial Karma, looks at the history of race in the South and its portrayal visually. the project addresses Confederate monuments and their removal or alteration to a form that is accurate with historySign-up here.

Today is the day you learn how to crochet and discover a relaxing hobby you'll enjoy for life! Join crochet instructor Angela Tarah as she makes learning how to crochet fun and easy. Romance, Deception, and Magic beneath the big top of a traveling circus
Based on the critically acclaimed and best-selling novel, Water for Elephants takes you on an adventure filled with romance, deception, and a little bit of magic, all under the big top of a traveling circus.
