Sanborn Mills Farm Woodworking Workshops
Learn New Skills, Hone Existing Talents, Take Projects to the Next Level
The NH Furniture Masters and Sanborn Mills Farm in Loudon, NH have a long history and strong partnership as two nonprofit organizations dedicated to preserving and teaching traditional craft.

Sanborn Mills Farm is a picturesque working farm with a mission to sustain and teach traditional farming and craft skills while stewarding the agricultural landscape for social, environmental, and economic benefits. This past winter, they refurbished their on-site woodshop into a state-of-the-art facility for woodworkers across the region – and now they are ready to welcome new students!

Next month, they will be launching their Woodworking Workshops in this new studio, which will act as a place for woodworkers to learn new skills, hone existing talents, and take projects to the next level. The woodshop is outfitted with the latest lathes, power saws, and other equipment and was designed for maximum benefit to both students and faculty.
Owain Harris and Leah Woods, two of our NH Furniture Masters, will be teaching classes as part of the Woodworking Workshop series. Owain will be covering topics including string inlay projects, tea box design, and tool sharpening.

"Sanborn Mills Farm is an amazing place that really blew me away the first time I visited,” expressed Owain. “I was immediately struck by both the scope of the facility, and the dedication to preserving and sharing traditional craft knowledge and techniques. I am thrilled to be a part of the launch of the woodworking program there, and I look forward to welcoming students to the brand-new woodworking studio."

Leah, who is also an instructor of our Women’s Prison Outreach Program, will be teaching a two-day “Women in Woodworking” series to help students learn carpentry basics and gain confidence. “I'm excited to teach at the farm. The small class and beautiful landscape are going to make for an intimate and in-depth experience.”

Sanborn Mills Farm will be offering a total of 8 workshops from June – October.  Their farm also offers overnight accommodations and farm-to-table meals created by an on-site chef. Visit their website for class descriptions and to register. Class sizes are limited.

Sanborn Mills Farm is a sponsor of the NH Furniture Masters.
NH Furniture Masters Gallery
49 S. Main Street, Concord, NH

There are only a couple weeks left to visit the NH Furniture Masters’ Gallery to view “Made with Maple,” our current exhibition celebrating one of NH's premier native hardwoods, maple. This exhibition features work from Ted Blachly, Jon Brooks, Tim Coleman, David Lamb, Richard Oedel and Brad Wolcott and will be on view through June 9.

Next up in the Gallery is our Annual Prison Outreach Program Exhibition. This popular exhibition will showcase the work made from inmates participating in programs in the Maine State Prison, the New Hampshire State Prison for Men, and the New Hampshire Correctional Facility for Women, as well as instructors of the program.

Our POP exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to explore the impact this program has on the lives and livelihoods of those incarcerated. Many pieces in the exhibition will be available for purchase.

Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, June 23 from 5 – 7pm, which coincides with downtown Concord’s Market Days, a popular street festival featuring live music, shopping, and entertainment. The POP exhibition will be on display from June 23 – September 30.

Artistic Collaboration in Action
On Thursday, June 8, the NH Furniture Masters and members of the League of NH Craftsmen will be gathering at League Headquarters in downtown Concord, NH for a “Meet and Greet,” and the official kickoff of our summerlong collaboration. This partnership with the League is our third iteration of collaborations with arts organizations in the state. We have previously collaborated with students from the Institute of Art & Design at New England College (NH Institute of Art) as well as students and faculty from Kimball Jenkins in Concord, NH.

It’s been wonderful to watch this collaboration grow each year while introducing new audiences to the rich tradition of fine art and hand craft. At the end of the summer, participating Masters and League members will showcase the work inspired by their time spent together for our Annual Exhibition.

Stay tuned for more news and updates and mark your calendars for the NH Furniture Masters Main Event, Saturday, October 28 at the League of NH Craftsmen Headquarters in Concord, NH.
