‘Hard work beats talent every
time’ – Coby Bryant
Dear Parents/Carers
As Year 11 students come to the end of their final week of secondary education before their written exams, I have shared this very short and simple quote with them. It’s a message that I and my colleagues have repeated many times, not just to Year 11 students, but to all students.
While undoubtedly, your children will have elements of their educational journey where they achieve higher outcomes than in others, year in year out, those students who work hard are those who achieve the best outcomes in all areas of their school lives.
On behalf of myself and my staff, we wish Year 11 students all the best as they embark on the final leg of their Secondary school journey, and indeed all John Hanson students as they work hard towards their end of year examinations.
Enjoy the weekend with your children

Year 9 boys travelled to Aldershot Town Football Club for their Hampshire Cup final against locals Salesian College. The boys started so well utilising the big pitch to cause Salesian concerns with every attack. Whilst we had a high percentage of possession we just couldn’t break the resolute Salesian defence down. When we did get past the Salesian defence we found their goalkeeper in great form making numerous saves to keep the score line at 0-0.
A big decision in the game unfortunately went against us when the referee gave a penalty to Salesian. It looked really harsh at the time and watching the replay shows there was nothing wrong with the challenge. This isn’t me saying the referee cost us the game but just there was nothing wrong with the defending and that officials are only human. The penalty was slotted home to give Salesian a 1-0 lead. We had numerous chances to level before half time which included Kai hitting the bar and other opportunities that just didn’t go our way.
The second half was a closer affair and we again rattled the cross bar with an excellent strike from Freddie and it started to look like it wasn’t our day. With the team pushing to get the equaliser opportunities started to fall to Salesian and they took one in a complete smash and grab to break our hearts. I did say to the boys at full time that I couldn’t have asked anymore of them and was so proud of their performance.

At John Hanson Community School we are committed to providing equality of opportunity for all students and staff, and to providing a working environment free from discrimination, prejudice and harassment.
We encourage respect and consideration for others, and recognise and value the school as a safe place for learning. The staff at John Hanson recognise that inequalities exist in all levels of society and believe, that as educators, we have a crucial role to play in eliminating all forms of discrimination, in particular against anyone with any of the protected characteristic. We promote equality by dealing with bullying and incidents of discrimination immediately and by educating the young people in our care through assemblies, tutor time, PSHE day sessions and group work where appropriate.
This is part of our responsibility in preparing our students for life after school.
