Watermain Shut-Off

Tk̓emlúps Public Works Department will be temporarily shutting off the watermain along Kootenay Way to repair a curb stop at 1270 Kootenay Way. This will affect all tenants and businesses from 1263 to 1298 Kootenay Way. The Housing Department will notify tenants. It's possible that due to unforeseen circumstances it may be longer than two hours. Please be prepared accordingly.

Arrival of the Cup Ceremony

Join us on Thursday, May 25th at the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Powwow Arbour for the 2023 Arrival of the Cup ceremony. It's the perfect way to kick off the Memorial Cup celebrations just a day before the puck drops!

Everyone is welcome to join in the excitement of the arrival ceremony. The event will feature a welcome and prayer by Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, followed by opening remarks and introductions of the Kamloops Blazers and the three Regional League Champions. Plus, you'll get an exclusive first look at the Blazers' theme jersey for the tournament's opening night.

Ethno-Ornithology Course

Attention bird enthusiasts and nature lovers! Don't miss the opportunity to REGISTER for the Secwépemc Ethno-Ornithology Course. Starting on May 15th and running until June 27th, join us on Mondays from 9am - 12pm for an immersive learning experience. The course includes 5 birding excursions, both online and in-person options available. Expand your knowledge and appreciation of birds and their cultural significance with this unique course. Reclaiming My Language

CONSTRUCTION AT CLC

The construction of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Chief Louis Centre Road Realignment and Roundabout project has started. The project is expected to take 7 months to complete. Traffic through the site will be impacted by a temporary detour that may require lane closures at times. Visitors to the CLC complex are asked to be patient with any traffic delays, and exercise additional caution for the safety of the public and construction workers. Construction signage and flaggers will be employed to maintain traffic flow. Access to CLC businesses will be maintained.

Note:

  • Vehicle traffic will continue to be able to maneuver through the site 24 hrs a day.
  • Chief Eli Larue Way will be maintained by controlled single lane alternating road closures as needed.

LFN Round-Up

Little Fawn Nursery Preschool Round-up for the 2023/2024 school year is now open. We are currently taking registrations for the September Nominal Roll Preschool program. Preschool runs from September to June.

Nominal Roll Eligibility:

  • A student who turns 4 years of age by December 31st. (need a copy of birth certificate)
  • A student with a TteS Status Card (Copy of status card)
  • A student living On-reserve (parent must provide current utility bill)
  • A student “in care” who would normally reside On-Reserve
  • A student enrolled by September 30th (Parent must fill out Nominal Roll Form)

Annual Awards and Grad

With a deadline of June 9, 2023, these scholarships and bursaries are available to students in degree, diploma, certificate, or technical/trades programs closely connected to careers at BC Hydro. Land Based Thursdays

Looking to connect with nature and learn traditional land-based skills? Join us every Thursday afternoon for Land-Based Thursdays! We will be exploring different activities and teachings on the land, meeting at 1pm each Thursday at Moccasin Square Garden. Transportation will be provided from MSG, so all you need to do is show up and be ready to learn!

Gym Night

Justice Forum

The Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Community Justice Forum is happening on Wednesday May 31st from 5pm to 8pm at Moccasin Square Garden (MSG).

This is your chance to join us for a delicious meal and have your voice heard! We want to know what "justice" means to you, your views on policing in the community, your experiences, your safety concerns, and what you think is needed in the community. We want to hear your vision for the community and how we can work together to achieve it. Powwow Volunteers!

Powwow Volunteers The 42nd Annual Kamloopa Powwow is only a few months away... and we need VOLUNTEERS! We have openings for: Concession, Janitorial, Gates/Parking, Maintenance, Security (Mandatory criminal record check for last 12 months). Ages 15 and up. Honourarium $12.50/hour. Free Lock Boxes

A lock box program is being run for community members to obtain a free lock box for storing their medications, cannabis, drugs, or paraphernalia. Interested individuals can request a lock box by contacting Rachel at 250-320-4327 or emailing her at rachel.kilback@ttes.ca. The program is free and Rachel will deliver the lock box upon request. For any inquiries or concerns, please contact Rachel directly.

Spring Family Challenge

Take care of one another — Calling all TteS Families! Spring Family Challenge

A six week challenge to promote family fun! 20 spots available for families with children under 19 years old, living in the home.

The challenge weeks:

  1. Draw a medicine wheel, talk about what the wheel represents to your family
  2. Gather rocks to paint, write positive words, paint flowers, paint to use in a garden, animals, names
  3. Purchase healthy snacks, "NO COOKING', pepperoni, cheese, vegetables, crackers, fruit, enjoy quality time with no cooking, children set-up the buffet
  4. Bird watching
  5. Assemble a craft together — family fun
  6. Enjoy out doors, potato sack race, three legged race, egg on spoon rate

Upload your family pictures from each weekly task to the Knucwtens Kwseltkten Facebook page with words #FAMChallenge by the end of each week! $50 gift card for participants that complete the six week challenge. Those who place in the grand prize challenge do not receive the $50 participant gift card. Starts May 9th! Last day for submission June 15th at 3:30pm.

Ball Hockey Tournament

2023 Memorial Cup Ball Hockey Tournament presented by Morfco. Kamloops is excited to unveil new portable ball hockey mini rinks for the community at the new parking lot on the 300 block of Seymour Street. (Old Daily News Parking Lot) Enter as a team or an individual and join us for a weekend of action-packed ball hockey games and activities for youth ages 5-13 of all skill levels. Registration includes a Memorial Cup jersey, along with some exciting souvenirs. Teams will be guaranteed at least four games, format to be determined based on the number of registrants. All games will be 3-on-3 plus goaltenders and one-player substitution. Players are expected to share equal playing time. Games will be approximately 20-25 minutes of fast-paced hockey on a smaller rink (25’ x 50’). Please register for the waitlist if your division is full! There is flexibility depending on the number of registrations across divisions that may allow additional spots to be opened up.

To request paper copies to be mailed to you, please use the link below to fill out the form. As usual, digital copies will still be sent via email and accessible for download in the members-only section of our website.

Please be aware that you will only need to complete the HARD COPY sign-up process once. Once you have signed up, you will receive them via mail until you decide to cancel.

Employment Skills

LandSea and Transmountain Expansion Project are pleased to offer the Indigenous Pre-Employment Skills Program July 3-7 2023. This program is open to Indigenous persons to participate in a hands-on hospitality work skills program in a live "remote camp" setting. Participants stay at camp for the entire 5-day program. Meals, accommodation and training are provided at no cost.
