Let's Talk About Why Black Lives Matter Lemonade Stand

All Together operates a lemonade stand at the Saturday Williamsburg Farmer's Market, to talk to our community about why we believe Black lives matter. They need volunteers to help out at the stand. It's a great opportunity to engage crucial conversations and practice talking about issues of race and why they are important to you.

CLICK HERE to sign up to help communicate with passersby and answer community questions.  No formal knowledge necessary (a FAQ sheet will be sent to you). There is even a slot for those who want to Observe before volunteering to work the stand, so feel free to simply come to Learn, Listen and with volunteers.

Reclaim Our Vote Postcard Drive

Request cards now to be mailed by June 10th.

Reclaim Our Vote is a grassroots, primarily volunteer-run campaign that focuses on increasing Black voter turnout through post-carding, texting, and phone banking. Working with local, on-the-ground partners they build effective, respectful, and relevant campaigns that engage BIPOC voters around upcoming elections.

The first Virginia Reclaim Our Vote postcard drive of the 2023 election year is on! We're writing to Black women voters in Virginia Senate District 18 (Cheapeake) to encourage them to vote in the June primary. The large majority of voters of color in this district do not vote in primaries, and we know that primary voting increases the likelihood of voting in the fall.

Postcards for the current campaign must be mailed no later than June 10. Postcards, scripts, address lists, and voter information labels, will be provided, as well as stamps for those who need them (although your donation of stamps is appreciated). All you need to do is write (or hand print) legibly!

CLICK HERE to sign up for postcards.

RECRUITING NOW
SURJ Action Alert Squad

So many policies that hurt people are enacted at the local level by school boards, city/county councils, and state governments. If we hope to interrupt harm - or better yet, advocate for positive change - we need to SHOW UP and SPEAK UP at these meetings, and alert our members when action is needed.

With the Historic Triangle area encompassing three local government jurisditions, we have a lot of territory to keep track of! So SURJ-Historic Triangle is recruiting a team of volunteers willing to attend one or two meetings a month, report back on what is observed, and alert us to issues where our voice is needed.

CLICK HERE to let us know of your interest and our Action Alert Squad Coordinator will be in touch.
SOCIAL JUSTICE HOUR - Saturday, May 20th.  Come on by!

The Village Initiative: Working to address the achievement gap and disproportionate expulsions/ suspensions of minority youth (first step in the school-to-prison pipeline) through projects like tutoring, little free libraries, and the local black history project. Also educates the community on voting and through production of an Annual Equity Report on the WJCC schools.

The Village is currently seeking donations of children's books (elementary age) to stock their "Little Free Library" book boxes in public spaces around Williamsburg and James City County. Books can be dropped of during normal business hours at Colonial Casa (3917 Midlands, Suite 2A) or Williamsburg Christian Church in the dropbox at the Church entryway. Consider purchasing a bunch of books at a thrift store, the WRL book nook, or 2nd and Charles and donating them!
