Leader Feature: GSUSA National Convention Proposal 2 to Amend the Girl Scout Promise and Law
This year at the National Council Session delegates are being asked to consider a change to the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Your delegates would like to hear from you regarding this proposal.
Proposal 2 - Amend the Girl Scout Promise and Law to include more potent, actionable language.
From the GSUSA delegate website: 'The wording of our Promise and Law is deeply meaningful to Girl Scouts of all ages. This proposal provides the opportunity to debate and decide whether we should remove the words
“try,” “to,” and “do my best.” '
If approved the Promise would read:
On my honor, I will:
Serve God* and my country,
Help people at all times,
And live by the Girl Scout Law.
If approved the Law would read:
I will be
Honest and fair,
Friendly and helpful,
Considerate and caring,
Courageous and strong, and
Responsible for what I say and do,
And will
Respect myself and others,
Respect authority,
Use resources wisely,
Make the world a better place, and
Be a sister to every Girl Scout.
GSUSA created a FAQ in response to delegate questions. The FAQ can be found here.
