Every day there seems to be more news to justify the need for a Democratic Party. Images of mass shootings, conversations over debt ceiling impacts, weather aberrations around the country, and pro-life legislation being passed in red states, reinforce the need for individuals to become more active in the efforts of their Legislative Districts to support progressive candidates and causes.
At our recent community meetings, speakers highlight these threats when they discuss such conservative tactics, and, as true subject matter experts, expound on these disconcerting issues. The elected officials we have had speak at our community meetings and fundraisers expose the flawed legislation and proposals happening right now at the state house and town councils throughout the state and local communities.
This information should prompt us all to remain vigilant and engaged in D14 Dems efforts to promote Democratic candidates and legislation to neuter the misguided conservative MAGA movement. These extreme Republicans continue their attempts to hold onto the reins of power in the state capitol and elsewhere…but they are weakening.
At our next community meeting on May 15th our speakers will be school board members Patti Serrano, Jason Olive & Jill Humpherys. Although they belong to different school boards in our district, they are dealing with individuals who continue efforts to privatize and neutralize our public school system. Each speaker will brief us on specific actions their more conservative school board peers are pursuing and will provide guidance on how our LD can stymie their opposition. All PCs and guests are encouraged to come or join us online to hear their message.
Before closing the Chair’s message, I do want to thank those of you who organized and/or attended our recent fundraisers. Together, the wine tasting and the La Madeleine events generated almost $2000 for our LD to invest in the upcoming election year and support efforts to bring the state back to reality and represent the true will of its residents.
Mike Flores, LD 14 Chair
