CPR class coming to Trinity

I have had several requests from our members to learn how to use our automatic external defibrillator (AED), which hangs on the wall next to the elevator. This training goes hand-in-hand with learning to administer CPR to an adult and child.  I am offering a four-hour course called HeartSaver, to be taught here at Trinity in the PLC. The plan is to use the tables for the mannequins because many of us are unable to get down on the floor.

The course will be taught by an instructor from Saint Clare’s CPR Center. The regular price of the course is $65, but because of a generous donation by a member of our congregation, you will pay just $35. There is an additional $5 charge if you want to keep the course book, but my experience has been that people bring the book home and never look at it again. You will have the choice, either way.

I am looking at two dates in June. We can accommodate a total of ten people. Please sign up in the narthex as soon as possible so I can secure an instructor. Also, let me know whether one or both dates work for you. When I see which date is best for most people, I will let those who have signed up know the date. If you won’t be at church soon, you may call me to express your interest.

Available dates: Monday, June 19 – 1-5 p.m. or Wednesday, June 28 – 1-5 p.m.
Please join me in becoming a life saver. You will be glad you did!

Mother’s Day/Father’s Day Living for Giving Outreach

Many mothers and fathers continue to be without homes for themselves and their children. The week of horrific tornadoes in late March is still very evident in the southern states, with families still struggling to have some permanent shelter as they continue to rebuild their lives. Just this past week, another tornado with destructive two-inch hail pounded areas of Texas. We think of Mother’s Day gatherings or Father’s Day cook outs for the whole family to enjoy, but many mothers and fathers continue to struggle to provide shelter and daily necessities for their children and themselves.

Please pray for these moms, dads and their families as they rebuild their homes and their neighborhoods. A gift to Lutheran Disaster Response can help those in need and is a wonderful way to honor a special mother or father in your life this Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Please make your check payable to “Trinity Lutheran Church” with the words “Mother’s Day/Father’s Day” on the memo line. If you wish, pick up a little note from the table in the narthex to send to your mom or dad and let them know of your donation. You may also place a monetary donation in the yellow container labeled "Mother’s Day/ Father’s Day" in the narthex.

Thank You,
The Living for Giving Team

This Week's Advocacy Article: Mother's Day and Maternal Health

Pastor Lilja gives us a way to learn about this topic and to take actions that can make a difference.
Things to look for:
  • Fact: New Jersey ranks 47th in the nation for maternal mortality
    • What are we doing about it?
    • What is the NurtureNJ Plan?
  • How can we take action?
    • Child Tax Credit. You can email your legislator.
    • What is NurtureNJ? How do midwives fit in?
    • Can childcare help in any way?
  •  Hot Topics
    • Teacher shortage: Some bills to help solve the problem.
    • Childcare Advocacy.
This week's topic has been a long-standing concern in this state. It is time that the issues are addressed. Thanks, Pastor Lilja, for keeping us up-to-date on maternal health in New Jersey. We can become active advocates. Are you willing to be one of them?

Dear Trinity Lutheran Church members,

On behalf of Zufall Health Center, we want to express our gratitude for the useful donations your congregation recently made to our vulnerable patients in Dover. The shirts, socks, hats, wipes and additional supplies you have provided us will be distributed to our neediest patients, especially those experiencing homelessness. As the needs in our community grow and evolve during these changing times, we are ever thankful for the support that we can provide our patients. And, I know, that is a shared sentiment that Trinity Lutheran holds for the Dover community, as well.

Thank you again for these items. We hope to carry on the relationship that Zufall Health Center and Trinity Lutheran Church have established. Together, we can continue to do our part to support our community's health and well-being.

Sincerely,
Michelle Blanchfield
