From the Head of School

Dear Gardner community,

With a few weeks left of school, our students are fully engaged in their learning- working on their writing pieces, diving deeply into projects, and counting down the days until it's summer. Students are comfortable in their classrooms, actively participating in their learning, and navigating friendships, conflicts, challenges, and successes that are a wonderful part of learning. I'm looking forward to seeing you at our end of the year in person events- where our students can share their learning and we can have a chance to connect with one another! The last few weeks of school can be busy, and our students will be supported in finishing the year strong.

As we move towards the end of the school year, it’s a good time to reflect on the changes, challenges, and successes we’ve all faced during this school year. I appreciate all of your contributions to this success, and invite you to share celebrations from your own child's experience at Gardner this year with our teachers and staff.

Grateful to be a part of Gardner with you all,
It's getting hot out there!
We remind students to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade, and provide opportunities to cool down on these hot days.

Just a few reminders for parents-

1. Send your K-6 children in with sunscreen applied (early childhood students have sunscreen reapplied during the day by teachers).

2. Make sure students have layers they can remove, and back up clothes in case they get wet during play times.

3. Make sure your child has a water bottle labeled with their name to refill throughout the day.
Coming to your email soon!

All new and returning families will receive an email from FACTS, our new student information system, in the next week. This email will give you directions to set up your Family Portal account, complete registration forms, and select your payment plan for next year.

These are important steps that need to be completed before the end of the school year. If you have not received an email by Tuesday, May 23rd, please reach out to Sheila FitzPatrick, Director of Business Operations, to troubleshoot.
Program Spotlight
Time for Field Trips!
All throughout the year, our students get out in the community and welcome guest speakers to extend their understanding of topics, discover new learning, and experience the arts in our community. Parents play an important role in our experiential learning program by driving and chaperoning these field trips, too. In the last weeks, our students have been all over the Portland Metro area as they connect with topics and experts at a variety of locations.

In the upcoming week, we have Wy'East going to the Oregon Zoo, Pahto going to OMSI, Mazama heading to WSU-V for a Science Lab and hosting a guest speaker from Friends of the Carpenter, and Loowit having their first overnight on campus. Looking ahead to the next weeks, we have classes going to local plays, hikes to WSU and into the Gorge, and more!

Don't Miss Out!

Happy Mother's Day!
Student Projects
Our classes completed special projects last week to take home to their families in honor of Mother's Day. From specially crafted cards in Spanish to hand-painted and potted plants from many classrooms, we appreciate the extra time and care our teachers put in to supporting the students in making these tokens of appreciation.
Thank you, families!

What a fun Teacher Appreciation Week!

Thank you to all who helped show our teachers and staff a little extra appreciation last week! We had treats from Seize the Bagel and Spruce Top Coffee Shop, lunch delivery from the Board of Trustees, Build a Bouquet on Wednesday, and more. Our staff is continually grateful for all the support!

All are welcome!

Gardner Talent Show

Bring your family to watch the Gardner Talent Show, with performances by all classes, and special solor and group performances from our talented students!

Learning in Action

Observation Tank in Wy'East
Early last week, our 3rd and 4th grade students found some salamander eggs in the wetlands that they wanted to observe a little closer. Students worked together to problem solve and find the available aquarium on campus, collected the water and habitat elements, and carefully added the eggs. So far, small little tadpoles have emerged and the students will continue to watch the life cycle of our wetlands residents before returning them to the pond.
No After Care June 14th

Looking ahead, we have a busy and fun spring! Check out the calendar below or subscribe to the digital calendar here

Please note, there is no after care on the last day of school, June 14th, and pick up is at 1:00 pm for Early Childhood students, and 1:45 pm for K-6 students (EC siblings can be picked up at 1:45 along with other siblings).

Campus snapshots

We're staying cool and having fun at Gardner! Last week, our electives classes continued with outdoor fairy gardens, soccer skills, and indoor activities like makerspace and storybook writing. The wetlands always provides a space for cooling down on warm days!
