In the highly competitive Sci|Art Studio + Lab, students are simultaneously immersed in science and art practices to develop and sharpen analytical and creative skills. This program prepares students for interdisciplinary thinking before they begin their undergraduate education.

During this intensive two-week program, students make connections between cutting-edge scientific research, popular culture, and contemporary arts. Through historical retrospectives, surveys of current art-science collaborations, and science fiction movie screenings, students are exposed to the interface of science, art, and culture with a focus on multidisciplinary collaborations.

Every day will be devoted to a particular theme with required reading and students will be asked to maintain a blog/sketchbook that incorporates their own ideas in relation to the subject.

YOU WILL MEET and talk to: Plasma Physicist Walter Gekelman, Astrophysicist Santiago Torres, Media Artist Clarissa Ribeiro, Nanoscientist Vuk Uskovic and many more!!!!
STEAM (science technology engineering art and mathematics) is redefined to Science Technology Ecology Arts & Mindfulness
WHAT to EXPECT:
This is a 10 week University course that is compressed into 2 weeks -- we designed the curriculum to make it fun but still cover all the requirements to get the credits.

1. OFF SCREEN ASSIGNMENTS -- after a lecture with the topic of the day, you will be given time to do an off screen assignment and then return to share with everybody.

2. JOURNAL / BLOG: Every day is a different topic -- students will research more and write about what they discovered / thought about. This is a habit we are promoting.

3. WORKING IN A GROUP: midway through the session, groups will form based on the topics they are interested in exploring to develop a proposal for a project.

4. FINAL PRESENTATIONS: everyone is invited to hear your ideas!
IT TAKES A GLOBAL VILLAGE!!!

LAST YEAR'S SESSION with students from all over the world sharing their projects with instructors from Brazil (Professor Clarissa Ribeiro), Los Angeles (John Brumley, PhD), Santa Fe (Kaitlin Bryson), Ivana Dama (Yale University) and Professors James Gimzewski and Victoria Vesna.
Students immediately join the DISCORD platform and, as an example, share their pets when we learn about interspecies communication. Here we see lead instructor Ivana Dama with her sister's dog on the left and her new sound and science project at Yale University on the right.
