Worship with Central on this Sunday, May 21, 2023

On this bright morning we heard special music from our organist Steve McCullough and violinist David Nwalado. Corinne Foree assisted and read Isaiah 45. In the Children’s Lesson, Ellie Templeton asked the children what was coming up later this week as school finishes for the year. They are looking forward to summer activities and VBS. Ellie formally acknowledged all of our Sunday School teachers (from early childhood to adult) and the children delivered a thank-you gift to each teacher.

Pastor Mike Riggins read from 1 Peter 4.  In his sermon “Hardship” he talked about how much suffering hurts. Jesus suffered when he atoned for our sins. Suffering is made easier with the Holy Spirit with God at work for us. As Christians, we need go beyond thinking and praying for others: find the spiritual power to get involved, listen, and give our love to those who suffer.

Next Sunday is Pentecost. The Pentecost offering supports youth ministry, here and around the world. Vacation Bible School is coming June 12-16 in the mornings.
