Thinking That Leads to Miracles

“But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’ ‘Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water.’ ‘Come,’ he said.”

– Matthew 14:27-29

Over the next few days, we will explore the importance of not limiting life and not limiting God with our thinking. It is important to realize that so much more is possible in life than you may think. No matter how great a thinker you may be, you have the ability to think even bigger than you can imagine. I enjoy thinking about Peter’s reaction when he sees Jesus walking on water. Initially, the disciples are afraid; they think they’re seeing a ghost, but then they realize it’s Jesus who’s walking on water. How incredible, isn’t it? If you were a disciple of a rabbi, then you had to do whatever the rabbi did. And to that point, they had performed miracles, prayed, cast out demons, and preached.

Now Peter was thinking and thinking, could this be my task? Jesus walks on water, but that’s easy for Him, He’s God. Peter finally says Lord, ask me and I’ll come out and walk on water. Peter walks on water, and he sinks, but he gets about ten to fifteen feet out. This is incredible! Let’s be mindful that our thinking not only produces wonderful miracles in our lives, but it can also ruin relationships, wreck jobs, and ruin vacations.

Friend, Jesus was trying to teach His disciples that they didn’t need to limit God in their lives. This is one of the great lessons He is trying to convey to us as well. As He walked on water He demonstrated how big the world really is — how big life can be. You can experience a fulfilling life if you are willing to put in the work, or if you are brave enough to take a risk.

Prayer

Father, show me how to not limit your influence on me.

Reflection

What can you do to be mindful that your thoughts create incredible miracles?
