Dear <<First Name>>

The u3a radio podcast released its May episode earlier this week. As always, it's a celebration of the learning and connection going on across the u3a movement, with stories directly from u3a members. Please do listen - and we'd love it if you could share it with just one other u3a member or friend.

Also in this newsletter express, we have the winners of the u3a poetry competition. Thank you to everyone who took part - and for more stories on the learning going on across the movement, watch out for the main May newsletter which will be arriving in your inboxes very soon.

very best

Listen to the stories of the u3a movement

Following on from the announcement of the winning dish of our u3a Cook for the King competition, judge Beverley and winner Khatoon appear on May's edition of the u3a radio podcast. Beverley explains why the pickling masala mutton curry deserved to win whilst Khatoon talks through the basics of her dish.

Also in the episode, Hawkwell Village u3a member Toni talks about her exploration into her family history - including getting to the bottom of a family myth around a shipwrecked ancestor.

The u3a movement's poem for 2023

We are delighted to announce the winners of our 2022/2023 u3a Poetry Competition. Members from all across the movement entered, and we received over 600 entries. Thank you to everyone who took part - it was a wonderful example of the enthusiasm, creativity and talent within the movement.

Congratulations to Ilkley & District u3a member Jo who won the competition with her poem, 'Home'. The poem explores the climate crisis and the judges were impressed by the beautiful writing, strong message and powerful final line.

Sidmouth u3a member Philip and Sandbach u3a member Kathryn took second and third place with their poems, 'A Clamour of Rooks' and 'A Letter from Kharkiv', respectively.
